I've really loved this Brook flashback, and while I totally understand and respect the opinion, I personally disagree with the idea that it happened in a bad spot.

I think something that Oda has been really good with the final saga has been having a really consistant pacing, especially compared to incredibly long fight arcs like in Onigashima. A great way that Oda has helped to avoid action or certain sequences from dragging on too much is by intercalating them with flashbacks, which help refresh things by giving us something like a mini arc in between a larger story portion. It does make things feel more packed and dense, but it's a worthy tradeoff for me.

Given how we are in the climax portion of Elbaph which is mostly fights and action, I do legitimately think there was a danger of things dragging on just a bit. Even if we are excited to see Imu, I honestly feel that focusing on with his fights could take away some tension, especially given how I don't expect him to really kill anyone anyway. If we just got ten chapters straight of Loki and Imu hitting each other wihout much conclusion to it, I think it would start to slow down a bit. So the flashback honestly has felt like a great palette cleanse from all the action around Elbaph to give us something a bit more focused and anticipating enough to make Luffy's eventual jumping into the ring that much more exciting.

Even beyond that though, being able to experience a microchosm of a whole other side of the world, while further developing one of our main characters and other brand new figures like Candelle or Luven, has been such a treat. One Piece flashbacks have a magic to them that no other parts of the story can really quite emulate, and that's what I really love about them!

Even if this flashback will be brief, I will miss these few weeks that we were enjoying the story of Brook Piece. Don't let this dismiss you if you felt it was too abrupt, but just wanted to offer some perspective. I can only hope Oda has a few more of these flashbacks in store, even if they are just a few chapters long, before we reach the end of the story!
