On 6 and 13 July 1801 naval battles took place between French / Spanish and British vessels at Algeçiras, #Spain. Although a French / Spanish victory, the relationship between both countries was severed as a result of the battle where Spanish ships were sacrified to save French.
2 July 1798: After landing his troops at Marabout in #Egypt and a forced march during the night, French forces under Napoleon attacked #Alexandria and captured the city after a short battle. They held the city until the British expedition in 1801.
Tsar Alexander I of Russia (1777-1825) was one of Napoleons biggest adversaries during the #NapoleonicWars. Alexander had a special relationship with Napoleon but eventually ended up contributing greatly to his fall and fought him until he eventually invaded Paris in April 1814.
On June 15 1800, at the Convention of Alessandria, Austrian General Melas sued for an armistice and surrendered his troops in the Milanese, Piedmont and Lombardy and withdrew his forces east of the River Ticino. #NapoleonicWars#Austria#France
