JUST IN:
A Johannesburg MMC and her bodyguard were arrested at the weekend.
Sources have confirmed this to @pule_jones and I.
They were arrested following an incident in Doornkop, Johannesburg, on 15 May 2026.
According to a case opened with Police, a 16-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted, kidnapped and threatened with a firearm after he was found walking with the MMC’s 14-year-old daughter.
Police allege the teenager was taken to a residence in Doornkop, where he was further assaulted and threatened before being released after the girl reportedly pleaded with her mother to let him go.
The suspects were later arrested and detained at Roodepoort Police Station on charges of kidnapping, pointing of a firearm and common assault.
Police also seized a firearm and ammunition as part of the investigation.
However, it’s believed the complainant later withdrew the case.
@unisa management may not appreciate this, but there is an existential threat facing the institution. Their risk matrix must tell them that all those buildings could either become white elephants, or they will continue offering degrees that no one takes seriously going forward.
Their examination policy makes sense on paper. But in practice, there are too many leakages. Either bring everyone back to write exams physically, or this thing will turn into a joke, worse than it already is now.
I mean, what is this?

Papa Penny Resigns from MK Party and Parliament Citing Internal Attacks
South African musician and MK Party MP Gezane Eric Kobane, popularly known as Papa Penny or the “Shangaan Disco King,” has resigned both from Parliament and as a member of uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.
In a resignation letter dated today and addressed to MK Party President Jacob Zuma, Kobane wrote that he was submitting his resignation “with a heavy heart.”
He said he did not anticipate that “the struggle to attain the emancipation of our people would come at a cost” from within the party itself.
The Limpopo-based artist, who hails from Giyani, specifically pointed to “attacks, vilification and belittling” by the party’s provincial leadership in Limpopo.
He claimed these actions sought to “impair my dignity and reputation which I have built over decades through hard work.” Kobane added that such behaviour from “those within our ranks” amounted to betrayal and was impossible to overlook.
Kobane thanked Zuma for the opportunity to serve in the National Assembly but emphasised that he had joined the MK Party voluntarily and served to the best of his abilities.
He wished the party well and signed off as “Gezane Erick Kobane.”
The veteran Tsonga musician switched from the ANC to the MK Party in May 2024, resigning as a Giyani councillor to join Zuma’s newly formed party ahead of the national elections.
He was subsequently elected to Parliament and became one of the more colourful figures in the MK benches.
ACE (Alliance for Change & Empowerment) is proud to announce that our notice of intention to register as a political party is scheduled for publication in the Government Gazette on 22 May 2026.
A new movement for change begins.
