We just lost a 2000s punk rock legend today 😔

Chad Gilbert didn’t just play guitar in New Found Glory. He helped define what early-2000s pop-punk sounded like.

As a founding member, guitarist and songwriter, Gilbert helped turn riffs like “Hit or Miss,” “My Friends Over You” and “All Downhill From Here” into anthems for an entire generation. New Found Glory became one of the bands that pushed pop-punk from sweaty clubs and Warped Tour stages into the mainstream, and Gilbert’s punchy, hardcore-influenced guitar style was a huge part of that identity.

His influence went beyond his own band too. He had roots in Shai Hulud and later produced major records for bands like A Day to Remember, helping shape the next wave of pop-punk and post-hardcore.

Gilbert passed away at 45 after years of living with cancer. His family and bandmates remembered him as a legendary musician, but said his proudest role was being a husband and father.

The riffs will keep playing. The scene he helped build will keep moving. Rest in peace, Chad Gilbert. ❤️

We lost another legend today. 🥹

Chad Gilbert, founding guitarist, songwriter, and backing vocalist of New Found Glory, has passed away at the age of 45.

Gilbert helped shape the sound of pop-punk for nearly three decades with New Found Glory, known for songs like “My Friends Over You,” “All Downhill From Here,” “Hit or Miss,” and “Vicious Love.”

He was also the former vocalist of Shai Hulud and a respected producer who worked with bands including A Day to Remember.

Chad passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 20, 2026. His wife, Lisa Cimorelli, and New Found Glory confirmed his passing. He was surrounded by loved ones, with his wife and mother by his side.

His music, songwriting, and influence on the pop-punk community will never be forgotten.
