This has been a hard 24 hours for Canada.

The relationship with the US has been forever changed. You cannot negotiate in good faith when trust and integrity are no longer there.

But I believe deeply in Canada - and in Canadians.

The road ahead will be harder for many, especially our small businesses, workers and families. We need to pull every lever we have to help people weather this storm.

Government and industry must work shoulder-to-shoulder. We need to buy Canadian, build Canadian and continue to open new doors around the world.

We will get through this together. And if we do it right, we will emerge stronger and more resilient.

It’s the wrong question.

It’s like asking an exhausted child:

“Bed or chocolate ice cream?”

Of course they’ll choose the ice cream.

That doesn’t make it the right choice. It just makes it the obvious one.

That’s the problem with a plebiscite designed to ask a question when the answer is already obvious.
