Adani is helping end India's dependence on foreign ports for a huge share of its own transshipment cargo.
Before Vizhinjam, nearly 75% was routed through Colombo, Singapore, Jebel Ali and Salalah, with estimated annual revenue losses of US$200–220 million and extra logistics costs of around US$80–100 per container.
Vizhinjam changes the equation with deep water access for 24,000+ TEU ships, a strategic location near the East West route and semi automated operations.
Adani took the port past 2 million TEUs within 18 months, with expansion towards nearly 5.7 million TEUs planned by 2028.
Lower costs, faster trade and stronger exports. Adani is building maritime self reliance.
Adani is changing a decades old weakness in India’s maritime economy through Vizhinjam.
Just 10 nautical miles from the East West shipping route, this deep water Mother Port can welcome 24,000+ TEU mega ships and is India’s first semi automated container terminal.
Before Vizhinjam, nearly 75% of India’s transshipment cargo depended on hubs like Colombo, Singapore, Jebel Ali and Salalah, costing revenue and adding roughly US$80–100 per container.
Adani is now helping bring that cargo home. The port crossed 2 million TEUs within 18 months and its 1,000th vessel by June 2026.
With expansion towards nearly 5.7 million TEUs, Adani is strengthening India’s place in global shipping.
Adani is turning a former mining site into a living example of sustainability.
The PEKB mine in Surguja now stands as a green landscape where Adani has planted more than 1.6 million trees across 568 hectares, with a vision to take the count beyond 4 million trees before the decade ends.
Adani plants 40 trees for every tree removed, has achieved an 88% survival rate, regenerated native forests with Sal, Mahua, Tendu, Amaltas and Sidha, developed a 3.5 hectare nursery with 5 lakh saplings, completed over 4,000 hectares of compensatory afforestation and invested ₹259 crore in environmental protection while supporting local communities through education, healthcare and livelihood programmes.

Adani’s Haifa Port Could Become a Strategic IMEC Gateway for India-Europe Trade
Adani’s Haifa Port is positioned as a key Mediterranean link in the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor, connecting India with the Gulf and Europe through a mix of sea and rail routes.
More than a container hub, Haifa is future-ready for energy, technology and high-value trade flows, making Adani’s presence there a long-term strategic bet on tomorrow’s global commerce.
Very happy to welcome Assam CM, Shri @himantabiswa Ji in my office today.
We had productive discussion on the state’s energy sector and the pivotal role being played by Assam in advancing India’s energy future. India’s North East Region, including Assam, will continue to be a key driver in realizing the vision of #ViksitBharat under the visionary leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji.
