One of South Africa's most heartwarming stories (currently trending) belongs to 62-year-old Oom Shorty, who recently experienced something many of us have probably taken for granted... his very first visit to @SpurRestaurant.
He'd never tasted the famous pink sauce, never heard the birthday song and had never sat down to enjoy a Spur meal. For the first time in his life, he had three different kinds of meat on one plate, thanks to the incredible team at Moeggesukkel.
The organisation has been supporting Oom Shorty and his wife since 2023. He earns a living collecting recyclable materials, travelling thousands of kilometres over the years to provide for his family. Along the way, Moeggesukkel has gifted him a bicycle, a custom-built trailer to carry more recycling, a new cellphone, and even built the couple a wooden home to protect them from the elements.
Just days before his Spur visit, Oom Shorty also received something else he'd never had before... a proper eye test and his very first pair of prescription glasses. Until then, he'd searched through discarded spectacles in rubbish bins, hoping to find a pair that helped him see.
His smile during that Spur visit made me both cry... and smile.
We take so much for granted. But it's really the little things that matter the most.
His full story, written by one of our goodies, Savanna Douglas, is on @GoodThingsGuy and was my chosen story for my @947 Monday feature today.

@Nombu_Sodi Took me to FNB Stadium in 2008 for their church services, and I liked how Rebecca Malope performed. Still remember every part of it till today.
