Here's my next #codex tool that I am Open Sourcing: Codex Safe Trim.

It's probably the most important tool that I have created to a massive ongoing issue that I had with my Codex conversations.

Codex conversations often get unstable once they cross roughly 200MB or 16,000 lines. Past that point, crashes become much more likely.

The usual advice is to start a new conversation.
I don't want to do that.

I invest a lot of time setting up context for each agent: role specs, custom commands, project history.

I also keep agents single-role on purpose.

For example, I have a Developer agent, a QA agent, a Researcher agent, and an Operations agent.

Each has their own role specification, unique workflows, individual tracker documents, and tailored skills and commands.

I work this way rather than asking one agent to plan, build, test and deploy.

That setup cost is exactly why I don't want to throw a long-running thread away just because it got big.

I built Codex Safe Trim to solve this for myself. It strips out what a thread no longer needs: old tool output, reasoning rows, telemetry, stale context.

The file shrinks back down and the conversation keeps running. The role, the history, and the actual conversation stay intact.
