David, these facts have simple explanations. I doubt Putin ordered a hit this week; rather, he ordered long ago for Navalny to be kept in conditions that he knew are long-run unlivable, and I expect he was surprised that it took this long.

Zooming out from this one example, Putin has a clear observed habit of killing all kinds of high-profile opposition, often in cowardly ways (eg. bringing down an entire plane with an innocent pilot to kill Pringles), whereas with UA you have to dig down the list to relative no-names, out of which a few unfortunately get unlucky and get retroactively elevated by Putin shills to being Navalny-equivalents. Meanwhile, Medvedchuk (highest-profile pro-Russian in Ukraine) spent 5 months in jail and was then set free in a prisoner exchange.

(BTW I acknowledge the critiques that Navalny was far from perfect, could have done much more to distance himself from nationalist positions and be respectful to Ukrainians and Georgians, etc)

I ask you to please consider that we're dealing with a regime that is power-hungry in similar ways to the US deep state that you dislike, but is (i) 100x worse, (ii) in service of crueler goals, and (iii) has zero practical democratic checks and balances. A David Sacks-equivalent who expressed similar levels of dissatisfaction with Russian politics as you have expressed with US politics *would be dead*.
