Our Executive Director, @kakongea, participated in a live discussion on @nbstv this morning about politics in Bushenyi.
He expressed concern that money-driven politics is marginalizing capable leaders whose only hindrance is financial shortage.
As WACSOF, we advocate for civic engagement, leadership integrity, and a political culture where competence, not wealth, determines service. Strengthening democracy begins with upholding its core values.

Two trees, two different outcomes ๐ณ
One tree reflects poor communication; rooted in anger, silence, insults, violence and broken relationships ๐
The other reflects healthy communication; rooted in listening, respect, patience, understanding and peaceful homes โค๏ธ๐ค๐ฝ
As part of our mentor training package, we continue to equip mentors with practical knowledge and skills on healthy communication within families and relationships. These conversations are important because the way we communicate can either build families or slowly destroy them.
Sometimes, transforming a home begins with transforming the way we speak, listen and respond to one another ๐ฑ๐

โGrowth begins the moment we remain willing to learn.โ โจ๐
The ongoing mentor trainings continue to remind us that learning is a continuous journey ๐ฑ
As Mr. Amon Turamye noted, โIndeed, learning never stops; itโs continuous.โ
It is inspiring to see mentors and facilitators come together to share experiences, knowledge and practical lessons aimed at creating positive change within communities ๐ค
Happily excited to show up, teach, and coach these young fathers on how they can become better fathers and role models within their communities ๐๐ฝ๐

๐โจ Community transformation is a shared responsibility.
Our ongoing Cohort 3 Mentor Trainings continue to bring together respected and committed men selected directly by the young fathers as their role models and inspirations in parenting, responsible fatherhood and family development ๐จโ๐ฆ๐ค
These mentors are not relatives to the young fathers but men of good reputation within their communities, trusted for their character, guidance and willingness to voluntarily support and mentor others for the betterment of society โค๏ธ๐๏ธ
The trainings are currently being conducted across Bushenyi, Sheema, Mitooma, Buhweju, Rwampara, Ntungamo, and Mbarara City ๐๐ฑ bringing together community mentors committed to promoting positive parenting and strengthening family systems within their communities.
To effectively prepare them for this important role, the mentors are undergoing an intensive 5-day training designed to equip them with the necessary knowledge, skills, approaches and practical tools required to mentor and support young fathers in their communities ๐๐ ๏ธโจ
The energy, commitment and enthusiasm demonstrated throughout the training sessions reflect the power of community-led change and the importance of investing in positive male role models ๐๐
Together, we are nurturing stronger families, promoting responsible fatherhood and building safer and more resilient communities for future generations โค๏ธ

The sessions explored key areas including Early Childhood Development (ECD), child development stages, gender values clarification and household decision-making ๐ถ๐พโ๏ธ
Participants noted that understanding childrenโs developmental needs and challenging harmful gender norms is essential for building healthier and more supportive homes.
๐ฌ A powerful reflection emerged that many young women and men wish they had received such mentorship earlier in life, noting that their bonding with their children today might have been very different.

Families donโt change by chance, they change when intentional people are equipped to lead that change ๐ฑ๐จ๐พโ๐ง๐พ
@WACSOF has successfully concluded a 5-day Training of Trainers (TOT) in Mbarara City under the REAL Fathers Program ๐จ๐พโ๐ฆ๐พ
Following the scale-up of the project earlier this year, the training brought together key stakeholders to strengthen their understanding of positive fatherhood, gender equality and family wellbeing in the region. These TOTs will now proceed to train selected mentors in their respective communities in the coming phase of implementation.

โFrom a service delivery perspective, many monitoring activities during project implementation are not funded by government but supported by civil society.โ
Speaking at the dialogue, Hon. Adnan Tumuhairwe (District Councillor) emphasized that it is through civil society efforts that many government projects have reached completion successfully, largely due to their investment in monitoring, accountability and continuous follow-up ๐๐
He noted that it is because of foreign funding that civil society is able to deliver effectively ๐ฏ๐ค๐ฝ. However, with these provisions and clauses in the Bill that put a limit on funding, service delivery is set to decline ๐, potentially pushing communities toward greater hardship and absolute poverty ๐
He further expressed concern that the Bill, being driven by government, requires broader citizen engagement before any decision is made ๐ฃ๏ธ. In his view, rushing the process risks worsening the situation for ordinary Ugandans
He noted that there is need to pause โธ๏ธ, create more space for dialogue ๐ฌ and carefully reflect on the real impact of the Bill on citizensโ lives with leaders inclusive๐ฅ

"This Sovereignty bill, if passed, will affect each & every Ugandan. The details are deeply concerning. We already have laws that address the very gaps this Bill purports to fill."- @patriciamunabi during The Leaders' Talk Africa earlier today.

WACSOF organized a stakeholder dialogue on the Protection of Sovereignty Bill and citizens had this ๐to say๐๏ธ๐๏ธ
โTrash the Sovereignty Bill.โ ๐ซ
Speaking during the dialogue, Mr. Pison (CIC, Make Bushenyi Great Again) delivered a passionate reflection on the realities facing ordinary Ugandans ๐บ๐ฌ
He reminded participants that Uganda attained its sovereignty in 1962, questioning why citizens should still struggle to survive in their own country ๐ค. With a national budget running into trillions while domestic revenue remains far lower, he noted that the country continues to rely heavily on foreign funding and support ๐ฐ๐
He warned that restricting such support through the proposed Bill could further strain households that depend on remittances and donor-funded services. From rising economic pressures to the effects of recent trade challenges ๐, he emphasized that the common Ugandan is already under significant strain.
Pison questioned whether it is fair for citizens to exercise their right to vote ๐ณ๏ธ, only to later bear the weight of decisions that may negatively impact their livelihoods. He urged leaders to reflect on whether this Bill addresses real citizen needs or risks deepening existing challenges.
He noted that laws should protect and uplift citizens, not restrict or burden them โ๏ธ
๐ข As Ugandans we must take interest in this matter, be informed and engage our leaders. Members of Parliament are urged to critically review and prioritize the voices and realities of their constituents before making a decision on this Bill ๐ฅ

"The people come first. If we are talking about sovereignty,it starts with the people - it doesn't start with the leaders/people who sit in cabinet/Internal affairs. Anything against the people is bad. This Sovereignty Bill is bad and we need to fight it with all our energies..."- @kakongea , @WACSOF

Caroline Namara, civil society activist: " I request Rt. Hon. @Thomas_Tayebwa because he is our own and he can listen. The Protection of Sovereignty Bill is unfair to many players in development. It should be withdrawn and burnt immediately. "

Residents in Bushenyi district have asked the Members of the 11th Parliament to disregard the proposed 'Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026,' arguing that the bill is unfair and seeks to suffocate Ugandans. This was during a stakeholder dialogue on the Protection of Sovereignty Bill held in Ishaka town on Wednesday. The dialogue was organised by Western Ankole Civil Society Organisations Forum(WACSOF).
