A major drug trafficking attempt was foiled in Nakuru after detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) intercepted a vehicle ferrying a large consignment of cannabis valued at approximately Sh4.62 million.
Acting on a credible tip-off that a suspicious motor vehicle, registration number KDX 264K, was being used to transport the illicit cargo, detectives laid an ambush along the busy Eldoret–Nakuru Highway.
Moments later, the target vehicle came into view. Officers signalled the driver to stop, but instead of complying, he floored the accelerator and attempted a daring escape, triggering a high-speed pursuit towards Subukia area.
In a swift and tactical response, detectives successfully immobilised the vehicle by deflating its front tyre, forcing it to a stop and bringing the dramatic chase to an abrupt end.
Two suspects, David Wafula and Loise Akoth, were immediately arrested at the scene.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered seven bulky sacks of cannabis sativa, weighing a total of 154 kilograms, carefully concealed for transport.
The suspects are currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, the recovered narcotics are being detained as exhibits.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations remains steadfast in its commitment to dismantling drug syndicates and safeguarding communities from the dangers of narcotics abuse.

William Ruto was elected to punish Kenyan voters for electing bad leaders.
He's not in office to bring development but to show Kenyans what incompetent, clueless & corrupt president can do when given an opportunity to lead.
Cheptongei Village Tribunal Judgement:
We agree with you that your neighour cut your fence & stole your cow. We can see the cow in his compound. But we are afraid we can’t return the cow as he has fixed the fence where he had cut. But to compensate you, we will give you a goat!
Case Dismissed.
As of 5th June 2026, the current legal position on NSSF contributions in Kenya is that the old rates under the pre-2013 NSSF Act (Cap 258) apply: KSh 200 from the employee + KSh 200 from the employer (total KSh 400 per month).
ELRC Judgment (19 Sept 2022): The Employment and Labour Relations Court declared the NSSF Act No. 45 of 2013 unconstitutional and void. Grounds included lack of Senate concurrence (due to implications for devolved functions), inadequate public participation, violation of competition principles (favoring NSSF over other schemes), and infringement on rights to choice in pension arrangements.
Court of Appeal (2023): Initially overturned the ELRC on jurisdiction grounds and allowed implementation of the 2013 Act (phased 6% contributions in Tier I/II).
Supreme Court (21 Feb 2024): Ruled that the ELRC did have jurisdiction (as the matter relates to employment/labour relations). Remitted the substantive appeal back to the Court of Appeal for urgent hearing on the merits. This effectively restored the ELRC’s declaration of unconstitutionality pending that hearing.
Recent Court of Appeal Ruling (29 May 2026): Dismissed NSSF’s urgent application for a stay/suspension of the ELRC judgment (Civil Application No. E656 of 2022). The court found the appeal arguable but that NSSF had not shown the appeal would be rendered nugatory without a stay. It noted the old law (Cap 258) adequately fills any gap and there was no governance vacuum.
The 2013 Act remains inoperative. Contributions revert to (and must follow) the old fixed rates until the Court of Appeal determines the substantive appeal on merits (or further appeal to the Supreme Court changes things).
Nairobians (and Kenyans overall) drive the same way they behave in queues - we must be close enough to be mistaken for people who share a bed.
Deeply invasive norm in person, catastrophic potential implications for driving. This is a best case scenario, tbh.
