@Amref_Uganda has installed incinerators in school latrines. Safe disposal means girls can manage their periods privately, stay in class,& avoid stigma.
This aligns with the 2026 MHM theme *Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld*. When schools provide dignity, girls stay & learn.
Today is Menstrual Health and Hygiene Day.
In this video, Doreen, our SCIF Project Assistant and GEDSI Focal Point shares a memory from when she was 12 years old. A classmate accidentally dropped her menstrual pad while playing. Other children laughed, and the shame was so heavy that the girl stayed away from school for nearly a week.
More than 20 years later, stories like this still happen in schools and communities.
Menstruation is normal, yet too many girls still face stigma, silence and fear because they lack the support, information, safe water, decent toilets and hygiene facilities they need.
At WaterAid Uganda, we continue to advocate for period-friendly schools and communities where every girl can manage her period safely, confidently and with dignity.
No girl should miss school because of her period.

Ending period stigma starts with access, dignity & knowledge.
WASH is more than water and sanitation, it’s about creating safe spaces where every girl and woman can manage menstruation with confidence and without shame.
Join the movement to break the silence and create change.
“WASH is everyone’s business. It starts with you, your mindset, your home, your community.
When we take sanitation seriously, we protect our health, restore dignity and build stronger communities.
More than 75 percent of diseases are preventable. The question is, what are you doing about your environment?”

Today, our Country Director @joyce_magala, together with partners, paid a courtesy visit to the Katikiro of Buganda to discuss the Sanitation in Markets Campaign under WASH is Everyone’s Business.
The engagement focused on improving sanitation and hygiene in Kampala’s markets, starting with Nakulabye and Kibuye, where safe and dignified facilities are critical for public health and livelihoods.
Working alongside @uwasnet, @bbstvug and the @BugandaKingdom_, the campaign aims to strengthen hygiene standards, community ownership and collective action in market spaces.
We welcome the Buganda Kingdom’s leadership in advancing cleaner, healthier markets for all.

WASH inequality isn't just an infrastructure problem; it's a justice issue affecting children in schools and patients in health facilities.
We commend the Citizens' WASH Manifesto—Political sweet talk can wait; clean water cannot. #WASHIsEveryonesBusiness
💧In 2026 Clean water and a decent toilet must be the normal for every household. The Citizens' WASH Manifesto gives MPs a non-negotiable, citizen-led agenda for dignity and health.
Don't just promise—ACT. Ask your leaders for accountability.
