The US announcement to withdraw from @rccint's Governing Boards may signal a reduced emphasis on institutionalised regional cooperation programmes and their intended positive impact on the local populations.

We learned about the decision of the United States to withdraw from the Governing Board of the Regional Cooperation Council through the media this morning. We are still awaiting an official notification from the United States, which we hope will clarify the details of this decision.

A formal exit from the Governing Board does not automatically imply the end of cooperation. We have successfully cooperated in the past with countries that are not formally part of governance structures but remain substantively committed to maintaining regional stability and prosperity in Southeast Europe. Over the years, the United States has been an important contributor to and guarantor of such cooperation, and I hope this engagement will continue in another format.

As Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council, I respect this decision, although I regret that the RCC has become part of a broader and more extensive withdrawal of the United States from key multilateral organizations and mechanisms. Multilateral diplomacy is facing serious challenges today, and I hope that all stakeholders are equally aware of this and ready to invest the necessary efforts to preserve it.

The Secretariat of the Regional Cooperation Council will continue its work with all 25 members of the Governing Board, as regional cooperation in Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans remains our greatest strength.
