Shoutout to all the educators who view hallway duty, bus duty, lunch duty, and any other duty over the course of the day, as an opportunity to greet, speak with, and acknowledge students in a non-academic space.
There's so much opportunity during these moments. #edchat
Got a 2.4 GPA my first semester in college. Thought maybe I wasn’t cut out for engineering. Today I’ve landed two spacecraft on Mars, and am now designing one for the Moon.
STEM is hard for everyone. Grades ultimately aren’t what matter. Curiosity and perseverance matter.
As a principal, I’m supposed to be an “instructional leader.” But I told our teachers this week, that I don’t know how to do that in the middle of a pandemic.
Right now is not the best time to talk about programs, plans, data points, and “best practices.” It is time to support.
Not sure why the need to announce canceling school now for the whole year. Even if that’s plan. 2 weeks at a time. Give kids & parents some hope. Most educators I know would take one day in June if it meant seeing their kids one last time. #thatonekid
Remember when they said we need state tests & report cards because otherwise teachers & principals would slack off?
Well, testing & state report cards are canceled and all I see are teachers & principals working harder than ever before.
Let’s trust our professionals.
I’m so frustrated with “we need to make sure they’re prepared for the next grade” as a justification for full days of online work for these babies. No. THE NEXT GRADE WILL HAVE TO CHANGE.
For those interested, I'm doing a free webinar on April 2nd (3:30 pm EST) via @AMLE on assessment & grading amidst COVID-19-induced, remote learning challenges, w/addtl ideas on how to minimize concerns abt sts' work truly being their own. Sign up here: https://t.co/JDDB8VObXD
Students don’t learn more because we upload documents. Look to solid pedagogy of what is good for learning.
Cooperative tasks, actionable feedback, class discussion, relationships with the teacher
In @OHLSD T's share their weekly assignment emails with their principal. I'm proud of what I've already seen! Innovation, compassion, excitement and resilience. Proud to be in this profession. #RemoteLearning
Let me tell you, every teacher is working their personal best right now. Whether it’s “little” like learning a new tool or “big” like driving around neighborhoods, every teacher I know is growing for the sake of all of our kids. Give them some love.
School mandated testing: I’ve in contact with legislative leaders and will be asking the General Assembly to pass legislation to forgo state testing for the 2019-2020 school year.
Our walk this morning was even more friendly than normal. Can't wait to get back to OHHS and see how much more we appreciate each other more! #BetterTogether
Teacher on Facebook "I’m deliberately only sending my students small tasks that they are already used to doing from the classroom. I just want them to still feel connected and not overwhelmed. "
Real-time feedback does not disappear with technology in the classroom. Technology only enhances it. Personalize your students feedback for a more meaningful experience. #gafe4littles https://t.co/Yj7lNuVNmO
Administrators don’t usually get to have the same “light bulb moments” that teachers have with kids in their class. Their rewarding moments are when they can support a teacher… when we can do something to lighten their load and make their tough job a little easier.
