#ProUK 🧵 This is (typically) a downright lie, from him, the SNP, their support & nationalists in general. They think we don’t understand how #Scexit polling works. I’ve not done an update since January, but here’s one from today.
Check all the images & bear in mind that single polls are meaningless & trends are everything.
Also remember that the don’t knows in polls split 80/20 to the status quo position in an actual vote. Also recognise that the Yes/No question, regardless of what the SNP ScotGov say, will never be used again & that when the Remain/Leave question is used there is a minus 5% shift to Yes & a +5% to No. Factor all this in (as well as the SNP’s own internal target to facilitate a ‘Yes’ vote is to be 60% in the polls for a year) & look carefully at the data in the thread below. Short synopsis, there is NO majority support for breaking up our UK.
@lewis_goodall The manifesto could be clear that a confirmatory referendum would be held in short measure, as the Devolution ones were in 1997, thus limiting the time for the question to suck all of the air out of politics.

@lewis_goodall The risk of saying “no referendum” is that it would drive away anti-EU voters. Salmond understood in 2011 that being able to say that Independence wasn’t on the ballot in the election.

@GraemeDownieMP@FrankieRTR@MacDougallMSP Difficult to exaggerate how let down those of us feel who bust a gut trying to get her elected as a Labour MSP in 2021. And if she had made the 2024 shortlist for Westminster, who knows where we’d be now? With a Reform MP in Kirkcaldy? #lucky_escape
@BBCRadio3 I am quietly cursing you for even mentioning the word “earworm”. It switched on the Boccherini Minuet, and it won’t go away! Grrr…

@BenGrahamUK He believed that they would dance to his tune. Why should they? When the real by-election happens later in the year it will be a very different story!
@BBCRadio3 Trees, folk tunes, remembering… The Rowan Tree, one of the most haunting Scottish melodies surely fits the bill perfectly. (It’s a beautiful setting of words by Lady Nairne, a contemporary of Burns.)

@NadineDorries You are repeating a mistake others have made. The 1997 leadership election took place after the Tories left office so Howard was no longer her boss in the Home Office. But it was the experience of having him as a boss that informed her comment.
@euanmccolm Ian Hislop would be brilliant.Farage wants a by-election where the issue is him and his behaviour! But would he be prepared to risk winning?
