A great man, Wafula Chebukati, has rested.
He was a history-maker, a ground-breaker and a hero of our nation who put the country first.
He was courageous, firm and independent-minded; a man of immense integrity.
Decent and diligent, Chebukati leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of distinguished service to the public.
Goodbye, Chairman!
In Sabata, Trans-Nzoia County, for the funeral of former IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati.
Today, we gather with heavy hearts to bid farewell to a man whose legacy will endure in the annals of our nation’s history. Wafula Chebukati was not just a name but a symbol of integrity, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the rule of law.
Chebukati’s guiding principle was simple yet profound, fidelity to the law and the Constitution. He did not bow to pressure, nor did he seek favor in his mandate. He understood that leadership is not about appeasing everyone but about standing firm in the face of adversity. The events of the 2022 general election remain a testament to this. While his commission was divided, he remained steadfast in his duty, unwavering in his conviction that the law must prevail.
As we continue to mourn the transition of our beloved husband and father Mr. Wanyonyi Wafula Chebukati EGH on 20th February 2025, we honor his legacy which will forever inspire us. This X account will henceforth serve as an official channel for funeral announcements by his family
For election managers, the answer to delivering elections with integrity and trust is simple: fidelity to the law!
These were my overarching remarks following my presentation at the ECF-SADC 25th Anniversary Symposium in Cape Town, South Africa.
