Celebrating International Youth Day Through Service and Solidarity!
International Youth Day is a reminder that young people are not only leaders of tomorrow, they are agents of change today.
In celebration of the day, Uganda Red Cross Kampala South Branch volunteers and youth leaders, together with the Red Cross Link at St. Denis Ssebugwawo Secondary School, Ggaba, took part in a meaningful community service activity aimed at giving back to families within Ggaba Parish.
The team supported 11 selected families with essential household items, including soap, sugar, tea leaves, mosquito nets, toilet tissue and rice.
Beyond the items donated, the activity was about showing love, restoring hope and standing in solidarity with families in need. The smiles and appreciation from the beneficiaries reminded us that sometimes, the greatest impact comes from simply showing up and caring.
We commend the Kampala South Branch and Link leadership for mobilising resources and empowering young volunteers to make a difference in their community.
This is the spirit of youth leadership we celebrateโyoung people serving, caring and creating positive change where it matters most.

Youth at the Heart of Humanitarian Action!
The Uganda Red Cross Youth National Council Executive is today holding its Statutory Mid-Year Review Meeting at the Uganda Red Cross Society Headquarters.
With young people forming the largest part of our membership and volunteer base, their leadership, energy and commitment are central to advancing humanitarian action across Uganda.
This meeting is more than a review of activities. It is an opportunity for our youth leaders to take stock of progress, reflect on lessons, identify gaps, strengthen accountability and chart a stronger course for the remainder of the year.
From schools and communities to emergency response and humanitarian interventions, our young volunteers continue to demonstrate that young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow, they are humanitarian leaders today.
We celebrate their courage, innovation and commitment to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
When young people lead with purpose, communities become stronger, more resilient and better prepared to face crises.

Strengthening Cross-Border Collaboration to Keep Communities Safe.
As Uganda continues to sustain its Ebola-free status, cross-border surveillance and coordination remain critical to preventing future outbreaks.
Earlier this week, our West Nile team participated in a Cross-Border Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) Surveillance Coordination Meeting in Paidha Town Council, Zombo District, bringing together health officials from DRC and Uganda's Arua, Nebbi, Zombo, and Pakwach districts, and other humanitarian partners.
The meeting served as a vital platform to strengthen cross-border surveillance coordination, enhance networking, and promote timely information sharing in the fight against Ebola and other public health threats.
Discussions focused on strengthening:
๐น Cross-border disease surveillance
๐น Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE)
๐น Health screening at Points of Entry
๐น Early warning systems and timely information sharing
๐น Coordinated preparedness and response mechanisms
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Jimmy Opigo, Commissioner at Uganda's Ministry of Health and a leading public health specialist, underscoring the importance of regional collaboration in protecting communities on both sides of the border.
