I’ve been reading a lot about Simon Nkoli of late. His coming out as gay during his imprisonment as part of the Delmas 22 in the 80s helped shift the ANC & broader liberation movement’s stance on discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. By the 90s, he & others lobbied directly for its constitutional protection, and it was. We do not honour him enough for the intersectionality of his anti-Apartheid work, and the need for the protection of human rights to continue to be thus.
10 years ago today, 49 lives were taken at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, FL.
Today we remember them by name. We remember the joy they brought, the people they loved, the dreams they carried, and the impact they continue to have on so many lives.
Their stories did not end that night. They live on through their families, friends, and communities, and through those building a world with more love and less hate.
Forever remembered. 🏳️🌈❤️ #NeverForgotten #NOH8
🌈 Happy Pride Month!
Pride is absolutely free because love is free, being yourself is free, respect costs nothing, and dignity belongs to everyone.
This month, we celebrate love, diversity, and the freedom to be ourselves.

🇺🇦 Ukrainian tennis player Oleksandra Oliynykova scored her first-ever win over a russian opponent at Roland Garros and then openly spoke about double standards in WTA.
“Many russian athletes actively participate in propaganda, play in Gazprom-linked tournaments, and openly support Putin,” she said after the match.
Oliynykova also revealed that she had been pressured by the WTA for months over her public statements about russian players and the war. According to her, officials demanded she stop mentioning certain athletes by name and threatened her with fines and even disqualification.
🏳️🌈 ¡HISTÓRICO en China!

🧵The best response to the bogus decision by the IOC @Olympics to ban the helmet of @heraskevych and silence the memory of Ukrainian athletes murdered by russia, is to see their faces, learn their names and share it with the world!
They want it gone, we’ll show it everywhere!🇺🇦
21-year-old Ukrainian figure skater Kyrylo Marsak dedicated his performance to his dad Andrii, who is currently defending Ukraine.
Kyrylo skated to the song called "Fall on Me," a father-son duet by Andrea and Matteo Bocelli. His dad sent it to him.
"Me and my coach really liked it and thought it could be an amazing story to tell. It's about the connection of a father and the son, and it represents my connection with my father. Even though we are far apart, we are still together. We are connected, and we love each other," Kyrylo said.
Kyrylo is from Kherson. He shared that it's "difficult mentally" to cope with the devastation wrought on his home city by Russia, but skating helps him to feel alive and show all his emotions.

Puerto Rican group Los Pleneros de la Cresta recently shared their experience performing with Lady Gaga during her surprise appearance at Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl show.
Founding member Joshuan Ocasio Rivera called Gaga’s salsa performance a landmark moment for cultural pride, noting that it honored the genre’s deep roots as a cornerstone of Puerto Rican identity:
“It was one of those moments we’re still processing. Being chosen to perform backing vocals—which, in our case, was our first time ever singing in English for one of her songs—while simultaneously witnessing Lady Gaga perform salsa, was truly iconic for us.”
Bad Bunny turned the world’s biggest stage into a lesson on joy, resilience, and the power of community.
From sugar cane and stolen labor to the history of Puerto Rico’s flag and a pointed reminder of the island’s neglected power grid, every detail carried meaning.
Culture as resistance. Love as the loudest response to hate. https://t.co/sIcP44bGV2

Erin Jackson has officially made history as the FIRST Black woman to win an individual GOLD medal at the Winter Olympics 🥇🔥
Moral Lesson: Never let anyone tell you where you don’t belong. History is waiting for you to rewrite it.
Around 100,000 gay and bisexual men were arrested between 1933 and 1945. Thousands were sent to concentration camps. Many never came home.
German LGBTQ+ activists told me remembrance is more important than ever.
