King Corn (documentary) did a decent job of explaining as to why corn was maximized as a crop, leading the way to cheap High Fructose Corn Syrup. Cheap and readily available everywhere, even in products you would suspect. For example, one fellow I follow on twitter looks to buy foods without sugar, there's only one brand of mayo that is sugar free!

Once upon a time, Type 2 Diabetes was called "adult-onset diabetes" but that was changed when younger people developed it.

From what I understand, having toads thrive is a sign of a healthy lawn. Fwiw, our lawn isn’t chemically treated like many of our neighbors. I can’t say their lawns would win awards and we have many toads and a few rabbits that help keep things low. Keep doing your thing, Mr. Toad.
