The Islington branch of the Women’s Equality Party. A non-partisan, collaborative force in UK politics. Because equality is better for everyone. #WeAreWE
The fact that all a perpetrator needs to convince a jury of is that he “believed” she consented - is at heart of why so few rape survivors get justice.
This is why @WEP_UK’s policy is to change the law to an AFFIRMATIVE CONSENT law. #C4rapedebate

Yet another senseless and shocking killing of a woman - a constituent who I had been in touch with many times.
My thoughts are with her children and loved ones at this awful time.
This appalling violence against women must stop. https://t.co/fPvlARt8RA
Patsy Stevenson, whose photograph during her arrest became the defining image of the vigil for Sarah Everard has said she felt afraid after about 50 police officers and security guards then “liked” her profile on the Tinder dating app.

Meanwhile, we are still waiting for officers who took and shared selfies they’d taken with the dead bodies of Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman to be properly held to account.
Don’t believe the ‘bad apple’ defence - institutional and leadership failures are at the heart of this.
Ms Everard was described by a former long-term boyfriend as "extremely intelligent, savvy and streetwise" and "not a gullible person", the court heard.

This week I delved into @mhclg figures to uncover the link between domestic abuse and homelessness. I was shocked to discover that more than 31,000 requests for help were made to councils by domestic abuse survivors during the pandemic – 17% more than the previous year
Thinking of all the women in Texas this morning. There’s no such thing as stopping abortion - just stopping safe abortion. And that will always hit black, poor, and disabled women the most, who can’t escape the state. Controlling women is hurting women. Don’t pretend otherwise.
This is one of the most moving, inspiring, and uplifting episodes of #DesertIslandDisks ever.
Thank you @nazirafzal for setting the standard of what it means to be a genuine male ally to women and girls in world disfigured by patriarchy and misogyny!

I find it chilling how willingly US, UK, and EU leaders are lapping up Taliban rhetoric about the rights of women and girls. This thing of “we shall judge actions not words” sickens me. It suggests that women will have to suffer BEFORE anything decisive is done.
