🚨BREAKING NEWS: We are thrilled to share that Assembly Bill 232 (PERS Equity) was officially signed into law by the Governor!
This legislation was a top priority for NSEA and addresses a longstanding inequity affecting our education support professionals (ESPs). #NVLeg
The same week the #NVLeg approved a pathetic $2 increase to per pupil funding that will harm our schools, while flatly rejecting the Commission on School Funding’s plan to fully fund public education, they've made progress on giving Hollywood $1.65 billion in public money.
It's officially the $2 Session. The #NVLeg is likely to move onto their other 'priorities' which means the #HollywoodHandout. Keep those letters coming! They cannot keep prioritizing corporate tax breaks over our kids’ futures. https://t.co/xlrWfqBSW8
Every role matters when it comes to supporting our students and keeping our schools strong. NSEA advocates not just for our members but the entire public education system. The #NVLeg should amend to include *all* educators in hard to fill positions. There's no reason not to.
While AB398 is a step in the right direction, it unfortunately and deliberately excludes other critical educators like ESPs and other licensed professionals. Shortages of ESPs and OLEPs impact the job of the classroom teacher, making filling teaching positions more difficult.
AB398 is being heard tomorrow 5/15 at 8am. While it addresses compensation for certain hard-to-fill positions, it unfortunately excludes many educators, including OLEPs and ESPs, who are the backbone of our school communities. AB398 should be amended. https://t.co/YCToOrbcmc
Day two of Our Nevada Leadership Development Assembly is kicking off with our Keynote Speaker, Andy Coons, Senior Director at the NEA Center for Professional Excellence and Student Learning. #OurNevada#UnionStrong
Make sure to check out this week's edition of NSEA Powerline. We have some updates on AB232 (PERS Equity) and a new action you can take to oppose AB236 which would eliminate and diminish educator voices throughout Nevada. #NVLeg#UnionStrong https://t.co/PPhEUeNqFy
🚨Our first #PassThePlan ad is live!
In 2022, Nevada received a research-backed roadmap to fully fund our schools in 10 years. Unfortunately, @JosephMLombardo's ignoring it.
To stay on track, Nevada needs a $700 per-pupil boost each of the next 2 years—$600M total. #NVLeg
NSEA took a neutral position on AB494 due to our profound concern over the potential consequences of dismantling the U.S. Department of Education—a move that would severely jeopardize our students' access to quality education. #NVLeg https://t.co/LKfHMfWeQk
🚨TAKE ACTION: AB236 eliminates & weakens educator representation throughout Nevada by making significant changes to how representatives are nominated to various boards. It replaces the nominating structure with vague and unnecessarily complicated language.https://t.co/rGzjzNsUSH
As we hear AJR1 to reset property tax depreciation at sale, let’s look at some context for this much-needed reform from this morning’s K-12 budget hearing. It’s worth the 2 minutes to watch, but I’ll explain. #PassThePlan
NSEA Aspiring Educator Miles Shanor spoke on behalf of all educators, urging the #NVLeg to not forget about ESPs and OLEPs by amending AB398. While AB398 addresses compensation for certain hard-to-fill positions, it excludes other educators who are also in hard to fill positions.
"This wrecking ball to public education will stretch our budgets thinner than they already are. This would be on top Governor Lombardo's measly $2 increase to per pupil funding next year." #TwoDollarJoe
"Let’s do what works. Let’s invest in our public schools so we can inspire imagination, cultivate curiosity, and prepare the next generation of students to succeed. We owe this to the children of Nevada."
NSEA Vice President Brian Wallace kicked off the @nvdems press conference with AG @AaronDFordNV to call out Governor Lombardo for praising Trump's elimination of the Department of Education.
