And our work should provide for *our* futures, not just theirs. #wgaunity

We can't – as a union, as creative human beings – be the victims of their pathology. It. Is. Our. Work.

And then they take credit for it. Suddenly they were partners the whole time. Patrons. Venture capitalists. And they cash their bonuses.

But sometimes something gets all the way through. Gets made the way the writer saw it. And becomes popular. And profitable.

Or try to bend it into something familiar. And often, they bend it 'til it breaks.

Then something gets through the filters...something new and good and special. And they try to shoot it down.

They go on retreats, harass subordinates, and come back with mandates for writers. "Multi-generational." "Super power." "Rob Schneider."#WGA

These people truly believe they earn their money. And they truly believe writers don't. #wgaunity

So let's get what's fair. Now. For us and for the writers who will follow.

97% of us certainly don't think so.

...but if I or my loved ones are sick, we'll receive great health care. And I'll have some extra income when I'm older." Is that greedy?

That's the trade. "I accept that I might go six months without knowing what my next job will be, that my best work may be unproduced...

What we get to offset that instability, if we're fortunate enough to be in the #WGA, is the promise of good health care and a pension.

We accept, grumblingly, the instability of our careers. Our lack of control. The fact that our incomes can fluctuate wildly year to year.

No one becomes a writer to get rich. Sometimes it happens. But there are other careers for people who are motivated by money.

All because a handful of show pony sociopaths need the validation of mid-eight-figure paychecks.

The middle class screenwriter – whose talent and energy can pay a mortgage and school tuition – will effectively disappear.

Our declining piece of the fastest-growing, soon-to-be-dominant mode of distribution will cripple Pension & Health...
