In 40 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties, voters still cannot cast the only early ballot this state offers. In the other 27, that option is already open.
With no-excuse mail voting, you walk into the county office, get a mail ballot, mark it, and hand it back. This window opens when your county finishes printing, whenever that may be.
As of this morning, the Department of State lists on-demand voting not yet open in 40 counties.
In the 27 where it is open, voters are 50.5% Democratic and 33.4% Republican.
In the 40 still waiting, 34.9% Democratic and 47.6% Republican.
Regardless of when your county’s ballots are ready, the application deadline is still October 27 and the receipt deadline is still 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Not the same number of days to vote.
The counties with the head start hold 60% of Pennsylvania’s Democrats.
Whatever the reason, the days are not equal.
Free and equal is the standard. This is neither.
Why should a voter in a closed county get fewer days than a voter in an open one?
