The winds of change have blown across local politics in Lewisham.
Sorry 2 see many solid & commited local councillors not returned but a clear message from voters seeking a new approach
Wishing good luck to @LewishamGreens & @LiamShrivastava to deliver for our great borough
(1/3) Garden Court North members express solidarity with Rajiv Menon KC, a highly respected silk and member of @gardencourtlaw, who faces prosecution for contempt of court following his closing speech in a high-profile and politically sensitive criminal trial.
As I told Sky News, even before the latest revelations, Peter Mandelson's scandal hit past and his relationship to Epstein were already known - so why did the PM make him US Ambassador? Who pushed for that. Who pushed for the concerns to be ignored. We need the full truth.
A shameful and reckless statement from the Prime Minister.
International law is being cast aside to appease Donald Trump.
The world will see this hypocrisy for exactly what it is.
Contrast it with the principled words of Brazil's President Lula (below). That's real leadership.
Making sure people have confidence in their borders and sovereignty is important. But if the Government thinks this week’s hard-line immigration shift will help halt the nosedive in its support, they’re wrong.
Evidence from other countries shows many voters will see this as extreme and cruel. Others will see it for the desperate political posturing it is and turn further to the authoritarian right, who’ll move on to saying even the Home Secretary’s performative cruelty doesn’t go far enough.
We are looking at a fundamental shift in the role of the state and how it treats rights. History is littered with examples of people on the margins – prisoners, the homeless, people on benefits – being used by governments to push through conditionality.
I would say to the public, look beyond tough talk about deporting children and see how the government used this announcement to double down on rolling out hugely unpopular digital ID cards. A voiceless group of people is being used to usher in such policies. Do you think it is going to end there? @LeftFootFwd

🚍 The Bakerloop BL1 is on the road today — and free to use all week!
Fantastic to have been at the launch with @SadiqKhan and now see it whizzing past Goldsmiths University in New Cross.
A great step towards the #BakerlooExtension and better connections for #Lewisham.
@elliereeves@thameswater another heatwave, another water outage in SE23. Please can we have the TW website updated, direct communication with customers, an ETA for repair, and water distributed, especially for priority customers, before it gets dark tonight?
Great to welcome new cafe Ounce 10 Coffee to Dartmouth road. A welcome addition to our family of fantastic local businesses that make Forest Hill so special.
Good luck to them and welcome to Forest Hill!
P.s - the coffee is delish 👌🏽

The implications of this collapse are profound for international, regional and.. domestic politics. Political dissent is repressed, political language.. policed, and traditionally liberal societies are increasingly militarized against their own citizens.
