WHO continues to support Namibia in strengthening health security under the International Health Regulations.
MoHSS, with WHO and partners, conducted an After-Action Review of recent Cholera and Mpox responses in Swakopmund, Opuwo and Grootfontein.
The review identified lessons, best practices and recommendations to strengthen coordination, surveillance and emergency response capacity.
Partnership, learning and evidence-based action remain key to building Namibia’s resilience against future public health threats.

Namibia’s Round 3 polio type 2 vaccination campaign coincides with the African Vaccination Week, which concludes today, 30 April.
This year’s theme, “For every generation, vaccines work,” highlights the importance of vaccination at all ages and the need to reach every child—especially those who have not yet received any vaccines (“zero-dose” children).
As we mark the end of African Vaccination Week and the national polio campaign, remember:

The Opuwo Health District officially kicked off the Round 3 polio vaccination campaign this morning, joining the nationwide effort to protect children against poliovirus type 2.
The campaign runs from 27–30 April 2026 across Namibia.
All children aged 10 years and younger are eligible—even if they received polio drops in previous rounds or are up to date with routine immunization.
Vaccination teams will be going house-to-house and are also available at all health facilities.
👉 Parents and caregivers: Make sure your child (10 years and younger) receives the polio drops. Every dose counts in keeping Namibia polio-free!

The @MhssNamibia , together with the Embassy of Japan in Namibia, @WHONAMIBIA and @UnicefNamibia, officially launched new Japan-funded projects to strengthen emergency preparedness, malaria prevention, and cancer services across Namibia.
Total funding amounts to US$1.126 million (N$18.4 million).
👉The malaria prevention project will be rolled out across 9 health districts in 4 regions: Kavango East, Kavango West, Zambezi and Ohangwena, reaching a population of over 823,000 people, about 27% of Namibia’s population.
👉The cancer prevention project will procure 7 ultrasound machines to enable early detection and the initiation of treatment, improving health outcomes.
Minister Dr Esperance Luvindao says: “It is an investment in resilience, equity & the well-being of Namibians.”
