This past Monday, during our first meeting of the season, we inducted Larry Schoenick as the newest member of the WHSVOA Hall of Fame. After playing high school volleyball in the 1960s, Larry reconnected with the sport in the '90s and has been an integral part of the community ever since. Over the years, he has graciously served the WHSVOA in key leadership roles, including assignor and treasurer, and most recently was the coordinator of scorers and line judges at the WIAA State Tournaments.
In his own words...
"After having played high school volleyball in the 60’s, I reconnected with the sport as a sub-varsity coach in the 90’s. I received officiating licensure then to help cover tournaments where a scheduled official didn’t show up or became injured. I moved on from coaching, but retained my officiating credentials thereafter, joining the WHSVOA.
After a few years, Bob Grise was ready to retire and I became the associations second officials’ assignor, moving the duties online. I was selected as the Treasurer shortly thereafter and became a member of our Board of Directors.
In the middle 10’s on forward, I represented the WHSVOA at the State Tournament as coordinator of scorers and line judges. I was selected to officiate there with excellent officials James Hochevar, Teague Prichard and most recently, Jody Witty.
I have retired from officiating and enjoy life outside of volleyball with my wife, Sue."
Please join us in congratulating Larry on a well deserved WHSVOA Hall of Fame induction!
