Hospitality has so much potential - to create jobs, to drive high street regeneration and economic growth. But it is held back by tax - the most highly taxed sector of the economy
Now the sector is united that #VATsTheProblem. A new sector-wide campaign, spearheaded by Tom Kerridge, is calling for hospitality VAT to be reduced from 20% to 10% - the single biggest lever the Government can pull to unleash potential. So let’s make the Sunmer’s VAT cut the start. Sign the petition today 👇

"We would be pretty much unique in having both VAT at 20% and a potential 5% holiday tax."
Our high rate of VAT means that visiting the UK is already expensive compared to Europe. A holiday tax makes that worse, Our Chief Executive @allen_m_simpson, tells Times Radio.
‘Not one person had a good thing to say.’
Former Night Time Economy Adviser for Greater Manchester, Sacha Lord, calls for the resignation of Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves for deceiving the British public over their tax raids on the hospitality industry.
“The 2024 Budget did unthinkable damage to our sector.”
In a debate on youth unemployment @helen_whately spotlighted job losses in hospitality reaching 100,000 since the 2024 Budget.
Gov’t must bring in a business rates solution for the whole hospitality sector to save jobs.
When each Wetherspoon pub is now paying over £1m in taxes, it is clear that businesses (especially in hospitality) are ludicrously overtaxed in the UK.
No wonder they are collapsing daily under the weight of tax.
They are being #TaxedOut
‘You can't have higher taxes on pubs than supermarkets’
Wetherspoons CEO Sir Tim Martin says his message to Prime Minister Keir Starmer is that if he wants pubs to ‘thrive and survive’, then there needs to be a sensible rebalance in the taxation of pubs and supermarkets.
The hospitality tax hike is leaving our sector #TaxedOut.
Over three years, business rates bills will increase by 76% for the average pub and 115% for the average hotel.
Our Chair @UKHospKate speaks to @GBNEWS:
"The Gov't repeatedly said it was going to introduce permanently lower business rates, and businesses heard that and made decisions based on what they heard. Now their bills are going up."
Thank you to @libdemdaisy for highlighting the huge increase in rates facing the sector.
We were promised Business Rates reform to support the High streets, Growth and Hospitality.
Hotels are up a staggering 115%
British Pubs an untenable 76%
and yet...
Big corporate supermarkets only 4%
Offices 7%
Warehouses like Amazon 16%
So much for support!! It's a disaster.
‘The dead clammy hand of the state keeps trying to drag more money out of them.’
@TomSwarbrick1 thinks the government doesn’t care if it kills British pubs.
