To learn more about what coercive control looks like in a gymnastics setting, take a look at this blog post from one our co-founders.

We are interested to know how people have found the BG complaints service since the beginning of the Whyte Review - either complaints considered under the ICP or those through the BG welfare department.
We would be grateful if you can answer the following questions 👉🏾
To learn more about parental socialisation into the gymnastics culture, take a look at this article written by one of our co-founders. Shout out to Chris Tomlinson (former CMO at BG) for including this work in BASEM Today to raise awareness of the issues to sports practitioners.
Lack of transparency from NGB's around safeguarding sanctions enables abusive coaches to work within other orgs unrestricted. 'Top' British coach banned for maltreatment of gymnasts not only working abroad but also working in a consultant capacity in UK.

Recommendations from the review into UK Canoeing include independent leads for investigations into compliance and safeguarding 'in appropriate cases' given the [previous] culture of fear in reporting.
This would be good governance for all UK Sport funded programmes.
I do not understand how Canada is assessing & resolving cases of Abuse in Sport. An Olympic level coach found guilty of sexual maltreatment, neglect, grooming & psychological maltreatment = 2 yrs then back to the job. Does the punishment fit the crime, @CQualtro?
Thank you @Bdownie & @elliedownie 🙏🏽
Your bravery, sacrifice & resilience has helped shape a brighter future for the sport.
Here's to continued progress and a safer gymnastics community.

@rwesthead Without knowing the full details, one observation would be that it seems this is classic “retaliation” & “intimidation” by the coaches & / or associations to silence players & parents from speaking out. That IMHO is the #1 issue that needs to be STOPPED!
#speakout
Those who initially spoke out were accused of being liars, not good enough, doing it for attention, couldn’t hack a winning environment etc
Then the dam burst over time and there were over 400 complaints into the Whyte Review
Progress has been slow and at times wildly misplaced
Also interestingly other sports are using the Whyte Review as a tool to demonstrate improvements around safeguarding,
The whole of the sport community is watching. The public whistleblowing that lead to where we are started in 2017 - it’s nearly 2024.
7 years!
💯 my experience.
Disappointed with the correspondence I have recently had with @BritGymnastics. I appreciate they are severely understaffed and have a huge case load, but I don't think a courtesy holding reply is too much to ask 🙄
Despite 3 safeguarding investigation over 10 yrs & being described by children's services as a 'Brutal taskmaster' & the police concluding her coaching methods are 'bordering on abuse', Rochelle Douglas still "denies any mistreatment of gymnasts". Re-education not an option. BYE
I am curious as to why the coach in the report who was suspended in 2017, and remains suspended following the outcome of that investigation is not on the @BritGymnastics Banned List. It appears she meets the criteria as she reveived a 'time limited ban ... subject to conditions'.
As British Gymnastics unveils new safeguarding rules, the author of a report which found 'systemic' abuse and a 'coach-led culture of fear' tells @stevescott_itv long delays in resolving hundreds of complaints threatens to deter future whistle-blowers
Privileged to have been invited to speak as part of a roundtable organised by the DCMS and share some of my experiences with the Minister for Sport and his team. Unsettling to hear such similar stories from a variety of sports. #BeTheChange
I know 100s of gymnastics parents. Of those, I've met 2 pushy parents.
But, of the gymnastics COACHES I've met, it was the MAJORITY who did this 👇
Please stop pointing the finger at parents. Please start *supporting* parents to recognise when coaches are being abusive
