I was begging Jeff Grimes for 3 quarters to insert a TE in the run game against that front and they finally did it on back to back plays. Iced the game.
Wisconsin comes out in a 13P Bunch formation, then shifts to Empty Quads to run the Quick Screen.
This is smart because USC's heavy personnel isn't equipped to adjust to a shift like this and only puts 2 defenders over the Quads.
This GT Counter Bash with a read option to a jet sweep is actually nasty.
Mandell and Mahlman pulling right to left if Joseph keeps and you get Dupree and Jacob's leading right for the jet sweep.
Colton Joseph ends up throwing this ball to the only place he could.
The spacing on this flood concept between the high & low receivers along the bottom of the screen is terrible.
Then you look at all 4 receivers in the progression & there's nowhere to go.
Microcosm of the game.
When these Glance RPOs hit they always look so smooth.
The Nickel gets occupied by Hilton breaking inside and then Joseph reads off the safety sinking down into the run fit.
You hear the term "free access" throws a lot. Here's a good example of one off an inside zone RPO.
UW leaves 19 unblocked as a read man, & 17 is the movement key. 17 doesn't expand from the box to the flat.
Two WRs over one defender gets an access throw when he's forced to sink.
I like the variety of options this play gives UW. Moving the pocket with a wheel, curl, and running back to the flat.
Take the curl every time the defense gives it to you like this play.
If they trigger down, go deep to the wheel.
If they drop, throw to flat or keep it and run.
Nice design by Jeff Grimes splitting the field with two different screens set up. A tunnel at the top and a bubble at the bottom.
Kawecki (C) and Cubberly (LG) getting out in space as blockers at the top.
If Cubberly doesn't hit his block, Tyrell Henry gets blown up on this.
