What a bizarre world.
A person can believe utter nonsense, as did Marie Clay (see below), and yet, nonetheless, achieve fame and found an organization (Reading Recovery) still in existence today.
Reading Recovery is part of the problem, not the solution.
@ehanford I think we need to revise the concept of a “literacy block.” Literacy is not a block; it is occurring everyday, all day long, whenever a child is reading and writing. Best literacy practices should always be utilized whenever a student is engaging in literacy.
@DrMPaff@FountasPinnell Guide for teachers from F&P on how to choose leveled text. Why would books at a beginning first grade-level need to be so closely aligned with what children already know? Why would the content need to be supported by illustrations? Ah…could it be so kids can guess the words?
@ChristyRAustin@DrMPaff@tiffany_peltier@FountasPinnell Interestingly my daughter who learned via BL read the following sentence incorrectly (I heard a neigh beyond the hill and saw a hose in the pasture.), while my daughter who learned via SL read it correctly and said it didn’t make sense.
