The University of Nebraska has called out the misleading narrative on cow burps & methane on climate change:

“They have not accounted for the capture part, they only account for methane being released. Carbon capture in soil and grass - helped out by cow grazing and manure - can far outweigh the emissions from cattle. Grasslands can take up more CO2 and carbon in the soil and plants, that offsets the CO2 that cattle are producing but it also offsets the methane.”

Total nonsense, and they know it.

Livestock methane is a short natural cycle, not fossil carbon. Our soils, grass and hedges lock carbon away every year. And the figure is skewed by the maths they choose: GWP100 counts a steady herd's methane as if it piled up like fossil CO2. Measure it properly, with GWP*, and a stable herd adds next to no new warming.

Meanwhile the planes keep flying and the factories keep running, and everyone else "decarbonises" on a spreadsheet by buying offsets and pulling our land out of food production, 9% of it, in fact, whilst on the next page planning to increase production and our food security. Quite a magic trick that!

Same old game. Blame the farmer, bill the farmer.
This solves nothing. Farming isn't the problem, it's part of the solution 👍

@mgshanks I live in a medieval hamlet of 25 homes. It’s beautiful, unique, unspoilt. Grade II* 12century church, listed and historic buildings and medieval fishpond. National grid have decide our hamlet is the perfect place to put a 72acre substation as part of the grid upgrade. Dickheads.

@LizWebsterSBF Starmer agreed to a 12-year extension of EU fishing rights in UK waters. He didn’t have to do that, it was in exchange for a trade deal of sorts. It was a bad deal and our fisherman were thrown under the bus probably so that a cheap political point could be made about Brexit.

@FarmingUK The stance of the British gov’t should be :“if you are concerned about the environmental impact of your food then buy British 🇬🇧”. Why they would actively work against our own producers baffles me. Buying British is good for the economy, welfare, farmers, health & food security.
