Another lost cat found in Hyde Park, Chicago. Anybody know this cat? All grey, longish hair, very silky smooth fur. Young, I’d say less than a year old. Extremely friendly. She (he?) belongs to someone.
Is it merely a coincidence that on the eve of my 71st birthday I have read up to the section in Proust where he attends a party of people who have aged to the point that he can scarcely recognize them, and he realizes that he himself can scarcely be recognized by them?
Proust: “…that literature which is satisfied to ‘describe objects,’ to give merely a miserable listing of lines and surfaces, is the very one which, while styling itself ‘realist,’ is the farthest removed from reality, the one that impoverishes and saddens us the most…”
Proust: “How many times…had I been disappointed by reality bc, at the time I was observing it, my imagination, the only organ with which I could enjoy beauty, was not able to function, by virtue of the inexorable law which decrees that only that which is absent can be imagined.”
Did somebody lose a cat in Hyde Park, Chicago? This little guy wandered into my backyard. Sweetest, friendliest stray cat I’ve ever met. Even asks for belly rubs. He belongs to someone and I’d like to see him returned.
I recently finished @Ada_Palmer ‘s new book Inventing the Renaissance. Wonderful book — I highly recommend it. Here is an interview in which she explains the themes of the book:

Pirate cardinal, you say? Turned pirate after he was deposed as Doge of Genoa, you say? Elevated to cardinal after fighting the Ottomans at Otranto? Tell me more about this guy. My wife says he needs his own series. @Ada_Palmer#InventingTheRenaissance
Listening to @Ada_Palmer ‘s book Inventing the Renaissance, I feel I really should be seated in front of a bulletin board like you see in murder mysteries, with pictures of all the suspects and color-coded string crisscrossing all over it. Awesome book!
Looks likely we'll have a surprise @bluejo Jo Walton joining me at the Volumes Bookstore launch for Inventing the Renaissance Thursday!
