@post_liberal There's probably a very clever comment to be made here about the intrinsically political nature of football, but it's a bank holiday and I'm too lazy to make it :)
@justdave89now What an odd take. Having never stood in local elections previously, they took control of 10 councils, emerged with 677 councillors (over 300 more than the second placed party) and won a by-election. I'm far from a Reform supporter, but this is head in the sand nonsense
@post_liberal Agreed, my comparisons were undoubtedly a little harsh, but two years ago he was being spoken about as the new Messi/Ronaldo. Technically he is miles off that IMO and once age catches up and his speed deserts him his career could well go the same way as Owen's post-Liverpool
@post_liberal The majority of us actively seek out barbers that don't engage in small talk, if my barber tried to press me on my mental health that would be my last visit to them!
@PaulEmbery Culture warriors on both sides will be engaged in dialectic peacocking until we address this. I have my views on the British empire, but the job of a teacher is to show where to look, not what to think. We aren't telling kids where to look and are inhibiting critical thinking
@PaulEmbery Spoiler: we aren't taught anything about that era, good or bad. It's basically Romans, Magna Carta, Civil War, *scene missing*, Victoria, World Wars. My mom's Irish and she knows more about British history than my dad, or any of her kids who were raised in the UK education system
@jessesingal As a UK follower, it's worth reiterating how crazy it seems to the rest of the world that you lot are having serious political discourse relating to a government department named after a cryptocurrency, which itself was initially named after a milennial-era internet meme
@BCFCBorg@GoodwinMJ@MalvernianKarl This would be my answer as well, I'd also bring the sector within the remit of the public sector given its importance to society. But in the absence of that, we need people to do the jobs and so immigration remains essential until we work out a viable way to care for our aged
We are delighted @wlv_uni to be ranked third out of 101 universities across England for #social#mobility. Creating opportunity and transforming lives remains at the heart of the Universityโs Mission. Read the full report from @HEPI_news belowโฌ๏ธ
Hampshire County Council is spending 83% of its budget on social care.
An official from this same council told the FT a few days ago that they are paying up to ยฃ30,000 *per week* โ per childย โ to for-profit children's homes to look after some children.
@j_macgeever@iainankcorn@BBCMOTD If the only qualification is being from the West Mids then we might as well say they're following in the footsteps of Joe Hart on account of him being from Shrewsbury. Which would obviously be nonsense too
@iainankcorn@BBCMOTD Neither Oldham nor Bury have Manchester postcodes. As another poster has pointed out, Jude is from Stourbridge which has a Dudley postcode
