WPI is a medical research institute dedicated to discovery, education, outreach, and advocacy for those suffering from infection-associated chronic illnesses.
Post exertional malaise (PEM) is the hallmark symptom of #MECFS
It’s not fatigue following activity. It is a dramatic deterioration and worsening of symptoms.
Short video explainer - triggers, symptoms, and management.
Repost for the last day of #MEAwarenessMonth
George Monbiot describes the treatment of #MECFS as “The Greatest Medical Scandal of the 21st century”. Repost of the introduction to my 27-minute explainer video for #MEAwarenessMonth — now optimised for phones.
Imagine you couldn’t watch television because the sound and colours were too exhausting or needed help just to eat, wash or go to the toilet. This can be a reality for people with a severe form of #LongCovid and #MECFS. Clip from German TV.
Coronavirus found in samples from 96% of flights
If you believe it's now safe to fly without a protective mask, you might want to think again. New research shows the COVID-19 virus has been found on nearly every flight tested.

mRNA vaccines have already saved millions of lives from Covid and they have the potential to save millions more from other diseases. Suspending research on this modern medical miracle will mean more suffering and more preventable death.
A US judge has ordered hundreds of terminated research projects at the US National Institutes of Health to be reinstated, calling the processes that led to their cancellation “bereft of reasoning”.

@DafoeWhitney Thank you for putting into words what so many experience while dealing with ME. The truth is this disease affects the entire family. Our personal journey started in 1988. The Institute’s in 2010. We are still trying to find answers.
Study Links Gut Bacteria to MS Risk and Reveals Key Triggers
A large-scale twin study has identified specific gut microbes that may help trigger multiple sclerosis.
By analyzing stool and intestinal samples from identical twins where only one had MS, researchers found 51 bacterial groups that differed between siblings.
Notably, bacteria from the small intestines of MS-affected twins induced MS-like symptoms in germ-free mice, confirming their potential pathogenic role.
Two rare bacteria—Lachnoclostridium sp. and Eisenbergiella tayi—were strongly linked to disease onset.
These microbes had previously shown up in association studies, but this is the first functional evidence of their disease-causing potential.
The study could lead to gut-targeted therapies and shows how lifestyle and microbiota may converge to trigger MS.
Last week’s PolyBio Spring Symposium featured updates on innovative research that is driving forward discoveries in infection-associated chronic illnesses. If you weren’t able to attend live, or want to watch a replay, the recording is now available:

1️⃣ The fact remains that COVID-19 is a significant public health threat – over 47,000 Americans died from COVID-19 last year.
That’s one death every 11 minutes, more than car accidents or breast cancer.🤯
One of the things I’m proudest of is passing the Inflation Reduction Act – the bill that allowed us to negotiate lower prices for prescription drugs for the first time.
Not a single Republican voted for it.
But we got it done, and finally beat Big Pharma.
New study of 74,000 participants found:
-those infected with COVID had more other infections (including bacterial, influenza & mycoplasma infections)
-COVID reinfections had milder acute-phase symptoms but led to higher rate & severity of #LongCovid

Medical providers and parents, please note the high risk ( 25.24%) to children of long-term COVID-19. Symptomatic treatment strategies can help while researchers search for more effective solutions.

This new study confirms prior data. Evidence keeps coming and denial isn’t an effective healthcare strategy.
The image below summarizes 8373 publications, including 80,071 kids and adolescents. #LongCovidKids prevalence is 25.24%.
Tell me again this is only a respiratory virus.
PolyBio Research Foundation is excited to be leading the #LongCovid Research Consortium: a scientific collaboration between top global research teams to rapidly & comprensively study LongCovid, with a focus on the topic of SARS-CoV-2 persistence in tissue: https://t.co/8dfoboteVq
