VIDEO | An NGO 'Educate Girls' has become first NGO from India to win Ramon Magsaysay Award.
When asked about how did she react to the recognition, founder Safeena Husain says, "First they messaged me on WhatsApp, I doubted it, I did not recognise the country code, so I didn't respond, then they called, we finally spoke, when they told, I was completely stunned, was in tears, I could not believe that this has actually happened. It is a tremendous recognition for tens of thousands of volunteers on the ground."
When asked what led her to start this NGO, she says, "Actually, I started the NGO, because I saw the power of education, how it transformed my life, my education was interrupted for few years during my childhood, I struggled with low self-esteem, confidence, because of the sense of failure... From that, I was very lucky to have support from my aunt, who took me under her wing, she built my confidence, because of her support, I went to London School of Economics, when I came back to India in 2005, that was the mission I wanted to follow, to look out for girls who have been dropped out, or never been enrolled, bring them back into education, so that they can move forward."

Justice Delayed: 4 Years, 11 Months Since Sushant Singh Rajput sir's Death. What Precedent Does This Set?
On June 14, 2020, a modern-day polymath Sushant Singh Rajput (@itsSSR) was found dead. After nearly 4 years and 9 months of investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reportedly filed a closure report in March 2025, stating no foul play was involved, as per multiple media reports.
Throughout this period, many individuals from the SSRian community, including myself, have submitted corroborative inputs (information) and procedural concerns to the concerned authorities, using lawful channels and processes accessible to all ordinary citizens. Despite these efforts, the absence of a chargesheet continues to raise significant concerns within public discourse.
This development raises important questions (Not allegations):
1. If the death of a prominent public figure remains unresolved to the satisfaction of many, what does this mean for the average citizen seeking justice?
2. Does this case set a precedent that individuals prima-facie challenging powerful interests may face systemic vulnerability?
p.s. As citizens committed to upholding the principles of justice and accountability, it is essential to reflect on these developments. As the legal maxim states, justice delayed is justice denied.
With hope,
Rudrabha Mukherjee
(Just another ordinary citizen and an SSRian)
p.p.s. Justice for Sushant Singh Rajput sir movement continues.
