@RutgersAltRoute A5. Creating assignments that allow students to demonstrate and observe their own growth is something I will incorporate in future lesson plans. #AltRtEd#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A4. Feedback can be focused on the strategy used to complete the task. Learning how to do it better, not what was done wrong. When improvements are made they should be recognized or rewarded. #AltRtEd#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A3. I can cultivate a growth mindset by providing opportunities for students to use feedback to improve their submissions. Providing time for students to re-submit corrections to demonstrate their growth will be part of my lessons. #AltRtEd#GrowthMindset
@RutgersAltRoute A2. The most effective way to promote a growth mindset in my students is to develop and demonstrate a growth mindset of my own. I have to show that I believe the students can grow. I have to encourage them. I have to show where and when I have grown. #AltRtEd#GrowthMindset
@RutgersAltRoute A1. A student’s mindset can either hinder their progress by limiting their perceived abilities or it can facilitate growth because students are aware they can grow their intelligence.
@RutgersAltRoute A4 I provide a few stress toys and other manipulatives, but they get SOOOO much use they don’t last long. Allowing students to use these has helped reduced distracting behavior. When applicable, I let students have ‘extra’ lab equipment to fidget with. #SciEd#AltRtEd#Sped
@RutgersAltRoute A3 When considering students with ADHD, I try to keep material chunked into manageable sizes. Using transitions as part of the lesson plan, ie having stations set up so the student can physically move from task to task can give the student ownership and an outlet.
@RutgersAltRoute A2: I encourage ALL students to be self-advocates. When any student advocates for themselves, I immediately implement their suggestion. I show them they will get what they need from me if they ask. Other students see this and are encouraged to self-advocate also #Sped#AltRtEd
@RutgersAltRoute A1 I often find that I do not know strategies to effectively include all the students. I often tap my #Sped colleagues for suggestions. #AltRtEd
A science textbook is a tool. We have to teach the student how to use that tool properly. Teach a lesson how to use a textbook #AltRtEd2022@RutgersAltRoute
