For ten years in a row, EU member states have increased defence spending. In 2025, that reached €381 billion, up 63% since 2020.

Behind that number: 633,000 people working in a defence industry that generated €183 billion in turnover last year.

And we are not stopping there. EU defence initiatives, including through SAFE and EDIP, will facilitate up to €800 billion in defence investments over the next four years, so Member States and industry can respond swiftly to growing threats.

Words are not enough. In 2024, the EU supported 10,500 human rights defenders worldwide.

21% were LGBTIQ+.

People mock the EU as “bureaucracy”.
But that bureaucracy turned a continent of borders, currencies and wars into a space where 450 million people can travel, pay, call, study and work almost as if it were domestic.

Russia unlawfully deported and forcibly transferred more than 20,000 Ukrainian children, while depriving millions more of safe childhoods since the start of the invasion. Russia’s systematic violations of children’s rights make a coordinated international action more urgent than ever.

On 11 May, the EU, Ukraine and Canada will co-host a High-Level Meeting of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children in Brussels, bringing together Coalition members and partner countries that share our commitment to trace, return and reintegrate every child, and to ensure accountability for Russia’s crimes.

On 18 March, HR/VP @kajakallas and Icelandic Foreign Minister @thorgkatrin signed the EU-Iceland Security and Defence Partnership

Security threats do not stop at borders. We will further cooperate on Ukraine and the Arctic. We will work together on maritime security, cyber and hybrid threats.

We just adopted our 19th sanctions package.

It targets Russian banks, crypto exchanges, entities in India and China, among others.

The EU is curbing Russian diplomats’ movements to counter the attempts of destabilisation.
