Introducing our Round 7 NJ Women Playwrights! Meet Jan Balakian! Jan is a Professor of English at Kean University. She received her Ph.D. from Cornell’s, M.A.T. Brown and her B.A. from Bucknell University, where she won writing prizes. Her student play won Cornell’s Prize.

In 2016 Ruth wrote her first play, The Caregivers. It won her a 2018 New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship and was a semi-finalist for the 2018 Bay Area Playwrights Festival. #meettheartist#newwork
The NJ Young Playwrights Contest received +425 submissions, the NJ Youth Poet Laureate Contest received 275 poems from 58 different writers & the Jersey Shorts Prose Writing Contest 36 stores from 18 different writers plus the NJ Poetry Out Loud Program had 89 schools register!
