@JonathanWoodhe2@ChalcedonyVark@richardvanemden My grandad was an AB in the RN joined up in 1913 aged 15, left in 1928 , stayed in RFR until re-enrolling in 1939 , did the Atlantic convoys , evauations in 1940 of France etc demobbed in Sept 1945 discharged RFR Sept 46 age 48
OTD 1916 the men of the Royal Naval Division left their assembly trenches attacking through the heavy mist along the Ancre , Hawke Bn alone lost 400 in the first 30 minutes, only 20 walking out unscathed on November 15
