2/ Thanks to all the volunteers who prepared and took the petition door-to-door, and thanks to everyone who signed it. It sends a message about the strength of feeling in the community which we're hopeful @LewesDC will hear. π€ #SaveOurBlackcurrantField#ThumbsDownToGladman π

Let's hope planners at @LewesDC recognise the strength of feeling in #Barcombe and reject the proposal.
In sunshine & rain, village volunteers have been knocking on doors in #Barcombe discussing how to #SaveOurBlackcurrantField and inviting residents to sign the community petition against #Gladman's proposals.
Amazing response! 200 signatures gathered in five days and so much π§΅
2/ concern & determination in the community to fight off these proposals. Worries about overstretched schools, services, roads, power supplies, water supplies and sewers... Concerns for wildlife... Fears about drainage and flooding. So many reasons to say NO to #Gladman! π§΅
Fields are often dismissed by supply-siders in the housing argument. However, they work hard for the public good. Take this one. Firstly, food. It produced over 1 ton of peas per acre this year (not a great year). PLUS the bales are being sold to generate energy. 1/
We will not let nasty, irresponsible profit-driven agents Gladman ruin our small village with inappropriate housing schemes that will do nothing to help locals.
It's not just the #BlackcurrantField which is under threat... Across the countryside prime agricultural land is being concreted over by developers seeking big profits - at the expense of food security for all of us.
Check out this petition. π
We gathered at what's locally known as the #BlackcurrantField - the crop for @RibenaUK used to be grown there.
The blackcurrants have gone but the field remains some of the best agricultural land in the village. @LewesDC please keep the land for farming!
WE WON'T BE SQUASHED!
#Barcombe residents of all ages came out despite sweltering temperatures to give a collective thumbs-down to #Gladman's proposals for 70 houses outside the village planning boundary.
@LewesDC please reject these speculative development proposals. They won't meet community needπ§΅
2/ They will wreck a green field space - some of the best agricultural land in the village - at a time of increased threat to food security.
Sewerage, water supplies, power supplies, local roads, school spaces and health services can't cope with 70 new homes. π§΅
