@finchertino To change one's letterboxd rating is simply to change one's mind, and we have a responsibility to change our minds if we feel so compelled.
@thogge Harakiri (1962) and Rififi (1955). Absolutely perfect films. Classics for a reason.
And - Cure (1997). Brilliant. Haunting. I thought about it for a week.
Thorium is a fine nuclear fuel, but there's nothing magical about it. People online almost always mistakenly compare uranium non-breeders to thorium breeders and conclude that Th wins, forgetting to mention that uranium can breed too. Here are the infamous Thorium Myths... 🧵
I remember getting teased by some fourth- or fifth-generation Americans because my family tends to call each other to wish a Happy Fourth of July. It seemed funny and quaint to them. But my dad fled totalitarianism in Europe, and I grew up around a lot of other immigrant and first-generation kids who fled dictatorship and brutality, which sadly seems to be humanity’s default state.
You can’t tell any of us that America isn’t special.
It’s always important to remember @DouglasKMurray sage advice: when people complain about the failings of America (and surely there are many) you always have to ask, “Compared to what?”
America’s exceptionalism—historically, economically, scientifically, politically—is a fact of history. And if we want to keep the freedoms we all (or at least most of us) claim to admire, we have to understand that we have something very special to begin with.
Happy Independence Day folks!

What are the long term ramifications of constantly chasing “The New” when society depends on a certain segment of its citizens maintaining “The Necessary.” (Norms, Institutions, Communities, Society Itself)
Nuclear energy is finally cool again. But how did it become "uncool" in the first place?
Nick Touran (@whatisnuclear) lays out the facts, dispels the myths, and makes the case for our nuclear future in Episode 89 of Where We Go Next.
Listen to my discussion with Steve Hendricks, author of The Oldest Cure in the World: Adventures in the Art and Science of Fasting, here:

Did a 21-day fast once. Anyone who’s never fasted can’t believe what is genuinely true: The first 3-4 days are the worst. Every day after that is much easier and Day 5 and 21 feel pretty much the same.
