The little "chit chats" we have at the start of a meeting or Teams call (where we talk about our weekends, the weather, our pets or the traffic) are really important. Research shows that they actually work as a neural 'warm-up' for a deeper connection.
So the next time we get irritated by the small talk at the start of a meeting & push to start discussion on the topic at hand, we might remember that:
- small talk isn’t filler; it’s an entry point to foster group psychological safety.
- rapport isn’t a ‘nice to have’; it enables the trust needed for meaningful dialogue.
- alignment doesn’t begin with tasks; it begins with shared attention & mutual recognition.
Those first few minutes of “non-essential” chatter are doing critical work. They're building safety, alignment & a shared language that's the foundation for us to work more effectively together: https://t.co/N4N8rqFMhT. By Nick Wright. Fabulous graphic & signpost to this piece by @tashwillcocks
Calling all WWL NHS staff📢🌟
The 2025 NHS Staff Survey is now live! Look out for your email invite or paper copy. We value your feedback and encourage you to complete the survey, the more voices we hear, the more meaningful the change we can make.

Happy Friendship Day to all the neonatal crews across the NW and beyond; where bonding happens over caring for babies and families, 3am caffeine top ups, attending alarms and getting excited over drops of breast milk!! Who else can you laugh and cry with in a 12hr shift 🤗
Kind Leadership-often confused with just being nice. Sharing your vulnerabilities absolutely creates connections with your team..I often use story telling to share mine, sharing is not a sign of weakness.. it demonstrates strength😊 #bekind
A special night for a very special man and I feel so, so honoured to have captured it in this way ❤️🤍
Made spending the morning zip tying thousands of zip ties to the tifo in 25 degree heat completley worth it🥵😂
Some well needed sunshine for our Infant feeding Lead. Looking forward to working with our new Infant Feeding midwife when I get back @WWLNHS@WWLNeonatal
