This rises to 27-41% in adults with a learning disability and potentially up to 40% of children.

A proportion of people with a learning disability will present behaviour that may be considered challenging.
In adults this is around 10-15%.
What we think of as challenging behaviours can vary, but this often includes aggression, self-injury and destructiveness.

So we have a Hospital Liaison Learning Disability Nurse who identify any hospital admissions and offer support as required. They also support patients with complex planned surgical admission and support understanding life decisions relating to the patient’s health needs.

Our complex team support patients with complex physical health needs. They offer training to parents and carers. Offer support around Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) maintenance and
support with end-of-life care alongside mainstream services.

Around 50-60% of people with downs syndrome over the age of 50 will develop early onset dementia.
Our screening pathway with primary care nurses will help us to identify early signs of dementia in people with Down syndrome to help them to access the Memory service for diagnosis.

Come along to the Sensory Connections Day, where you’ll have the chance to meet and speak with the learning disability team and other organisations supporting people with hearing and vision impairments. The event is 1pm – 4pm at Leigh Library, Civic Square, Leigh, WN7 1EB
Today the LD team are at the "Local Offer Live" event at Leigh Sports Village. The event brings together services across health, education and social care to help parents, carers and young people know what offers / services are available to them. #WWLNHS
