Very happy to report that I passed my PhD viva a few weeks ago with no further corrections required. The final print arrived today!
Many thanks to my examiners @DerekFabel and @living_stephen for a really great and enjoyable discussion.
Onwards to getting the papers out now!
Absolutely stunning view of Helheim Fjord and associated outlet glaciers of SE Greenland on my flight from London to Seattle.
I don’t think anyone else on the plane was as giddy as this glaciology nerd sitting in the back 😁
What did 1.6km thick ice infilling the Alpine valleys during the LGM actually look like? I've been experimenting with rendering model outputs in Blender with satellite basemaps draped over the DEMs. Compare the 1850 extent to LGM here at Triftgletscher, Switzerland.
(2)...varies substantially within contemporary alpine catchments over the last 100 ka, both spatially according to major features like icefalls and temporally in line with climate forcings.
(1)Sadly unable to attend #EGU24 due to the minor inconvenience of trying to finish my thesis. But my supervisor Darrel Swift is presenting a poster on my behalf. X4.205 on Thursday 2 - 6pm.
We use an exciting method of thermochronometry with @OSLrocks to show glacial erosion...
Second entry: snow covered drumlins emerging from the Hofsjökull icecap, Iceland.
From the amazing #DRUMICE project back in March.

Ahh my favourite time of year…the @BSG_Geomorph photo competition!
Time to look back and reflect on my fav fieldwork snaps.
First entry, very reflective indeed, is the stunning Oberaargletscher, Switzerland.

Out in the field showing @sheffieldgeog students coastal processes on Spurn. t
Thanks to @YorksWildlife and colleagues from the Environment Agency for their contributions.
A short film of our time on the #DRUMICE expedition, camping out in -20C and stormy winds to GPR survey the emerging drumlins.
Many thanks to funding contributors @mef_org@BSG_Geomorph#AACUK and to @Alpkit whose tents certainly survived the test!

Just landed back in the UK after a really special 2 weeks with the #DRUMICE team in Iceland. We were using GPR to look at pro and subglacial drumlins of the Hofsjökull icecap. @down2ice@peter_tuckett @emma_c_smith @WWenban thanks to MEF, the BSG and The AAC!
We are delighted to announce the winners of the BSG Photo Competition (#BSGPC22). Congratulations to:
🥇@AntarcticGlacie for her photo of Gilkey Glacier Ogives, Juneau Icefield
🥈@EdwinBaynes for Old Harry Rocks, Dorset
🥉@WWenban for Tufa Limestone walls, Greece
@RiccoMason@BSG_Geomorph@BSG_Postgrads Indeed this is fresh off a recent climbing trip. I was blown away by the geomorph as much as the climbing it provides! :)
