Orionids Meteor Shower Tonight
Calling all night owls looking for something cool to do tonight! Don’t miss the Orionid meteor shower, which peaks tonight into tomorrow morning. The Orionids are tiny bits of debris from Halley’s Comet that burn up in Earth’s atmosphere, creating fiery streaks across the sky.
The shower is best viewed under a dark sky, and even moonlight can wash out the fainter meteors. Under ideal conditions, you could see 10–20 meteors per hour. While cloud cover won’t be an issue, light from the waxing gibbous moon will likely reduce the number of visible meteors.
The best time to watch will be in the hours just before dawn tomorrow, October 22nd. The moon sets around 3 AM, which will darken the sky and improve visibility.
Get away from city lights and look southeast toward the constellation Orion. So get to bed early and set your alarm to catch the show!
2:19 PM CT 10/21/26: Special Weather Statement is in effect for Edmonson and Barren through Thursday morning. River valley fog forms overnight and becomes dense in spots with calm winds and clear skies; patchy fog may occur outside valleys.

WABBLES, we are feeling parched out there this week, and relief is not in sight. While you figure out your layers this morning, you can at least keep the rain jacket tucked away.
For your Wednesday, a forecast you won’t complain about is in store. It’s the season for chilly mornings, so while you’re contemplating today’s dress code, you may want to allow some extra time for your commute thanks to patchy fog. Today will be sunny, with highs in the low to mid 70s by this afternoon.
Someone pressed the repeat button and walked away, because Thursday looks eerily similar. We’ll wake up to cold temperatures again, with a little fog to spice up the morning commute. Afternoon temperatures climb right back into the low to mid 70s under sunny skies, leaving you with a wardrobe malfunction because the office turned the heat on too early.
You’re probably trying to figure out which scene of Groundhog Day we’re in right now, since each day’s forecast blends into the next. It may be repetitive, but at least we can say we have a beautiful weekend ahead of us, with the same chilly mornings, mild afternoons, and dry conditions we’ve had all week.
Soak in this weather, WABBLES. The temperature swings and dry spell may get repetitive, but remember: it could be an ugly kind of repetitive forecast.
Tranquil weather continues with an Omega Block keeping any sensible weather impacts at bay. Chilling morning's lead into comfortable afternoons all the way through the end of the week. Details in this morning's forecast convo: https://t.co/Io9jyHHvqR
October is running out of time to get its act together. After a stretch of temperatures that have felt more like late summer than fall, WABBLES still seems to be running a low-grade fever for this time of year.
Sure, it may feel much more comfortable outside, but WABBLES is still a little warmer than normal. Climatologically, October is supposed to cool down as the month goes on. At the beginning of the month, average highs hang around the mid-70s. Then by Halloween, we should be talking about highs in the 60s.
Instead, October just doesn't look ready to flip the script just yet. With temperatures still hanging around the 70s to end the week, the Climate Prediction Center is favoring above-normal temperatures for WABBLES heading into next week.
October, you've got about a week and a half left. Welcome to Kentucky, y'all!
2:21 PM CT 10/20/26: Special Weather Statement issued for Edmonson and Barren through Wed morning. River valley fog may form overnight and become dense in localized areas with clear skies and calm winds; use low-beam headlights, increase following distance, and drive slower.
If you liked yesterday's weather, you're going to LOVE this week. It's the weather we've all been waiting for: we're keeping the sunshine, low humidity, and comfortable temperatures rolling right along.
There's not much change in sight, as the beautiful fall weather sticks around for much of the week. Afternoon temperatures hang around the low 70s, skies remain sunny, and nights turn chilly with lows in the 40s.
As nice as this stretch of weather is, we could really use some rain! Without any rain to ease our dry conditions, WABBLES' drought conditions are expected to worsen. Much of the region is already experiencing moderate drought, and we're not getting much of a chance to turn that around this week.
So enjoy the beautiful weather, and if you've got plants or flowers still out, they could use a little extra water this week!
Our prolonged stretch of quiet weather continues with worsening drought conditions on tap. Details in this morning's forecast briefing: https://t.co/EzrBmpMTRn
4:07 AM CT 10/20/26: Special Weather Statement issued for Edmonson and Barren until this morning. Dense fog has developed in some river valleys; use caution near fog-prone waters and use low beams. Temps in the 40s, with patchy frost and mid/upper 30s early.
The weather has been absolutely beautiful lately. Cool mornings, low humidity, sunshine... what's not to love?
Well, this dry and calm weather poses one problem: we could really use some rain!
WABBLES is already in a D1, or moderate, drought at the moment and is already well below the normal total precipitation for the year. We are unusually dry, and the pattern isn't giving us much time to catch up.
High pressure over WABBLES this week means sinking air, and sinking air isn't exactly what you want for clouds and showers to form. So with high pressure in control for much of the week, skies will stay sunny, and rain chances are pretty much nonexistent.
It's fantastic news for your pumpkin patch trip, football games, and afternoon hikes, but our soils aren't quite as thrilled.
1:39 PM CT 10/19/26: Special Weather Statement issued for Edmonson and Barren through Tuesday morning. Temps fall to the low/mid 40s, but sheltered valleys may reach the 30s with patchy frost, especially east of I-65.
That porch swing is calling your name this week, WABBLES. We're talking comfortable temperatures, clear skies, and just enough breeze to make it finally feel like fall.
It's another chilly one this morning, and don't expect that to change much this week. With temperatures dropping into the lower 40s each night, you'll want to be sure to grab the jacket as you walk out the door each morning.
But you can ditch the jacket by the afternoon because plenty of sunshine will send temperatures into the low 70s, making for some seriously comfortable afternoons.
It's a pattern we can get used to this week: chilly mornings, mild afternoons, and plenty of sunshine. As for the rain? Not a lick of it in sight this week.
So enjoy it WABBLES. This is the kind of fall weather we've been waiting for!
