Breaking: Microsoft confirms reports of major cursor issues in Windows 11 after big update.
Windows 11's big update (KB5120998) that restored Windows 10-era features is breaking the mouse cursor on some PCs, and Microsoft now says it's investigating the reports.
The company says it has received reports indicating that mouse cursor personalization settings are being changed or reverted to certain standard settings.
Based on reports we've seen, Windows 11 reset all mouse cursor settings, including its size and a custom scheme, so you're switched back to the default standard style.
"Attempts to restore the previous cursor customization are reported to be unsuccessful," Microsoft noted in the changelog.
However, in worst cases, your cursor could look huge or change its color, and you won't be able to switch back to anything, not even defaults.
Microsoft argues that it's "investigating to determine if this is an issue caused" by Windows Update, but all public reports suggest it's indeed due to the patch, and removing it fixes the cursor + other bugs.
Windows 11 KB5120998 (26200.9278/26100.9278) added the most requested features, like a movable taskbar, a resizable Start menu, and Bing-free Windows Search.
We're also seeing reports of other issues, including blurry font and missing desktop background wallpaper (Windows update applies a solid color/black in most cases).
It's an optional update, and you should avoid it for now....
