We’ve loved connecting with you here, but due to budget cuts and fewer team members, we need to simplify where we share updates.
Starting July 1, we’ll be focusing on just a few platforms:
Facebook https://t.co/JQpgvFhroZ
Nextdoor: https://t.co/eumDi8dWLV
LinkedIn: https://t.co/IIHXAjAXsW
YouTube: https://t.co/zHKE2nLUUB
These changes will help us make the most of our resources while still providing you with the news, updates, and resources you rely on.
Even though we won’t be posting here anymore, we’re not going anywhere! You’ll still find the same helpful information and ways to connect with us on these platforms. If you’re not already following us there, now’s a great time to join.
Thank you for being part of our community, for your understanding, and for your support during this transition. We’re excited to continue connecting with you in new ways—see you on Facebook, Nextdoor, YouTube or LinkedIn!
We’re excited to announce the launch of the new DSHS website on Sept. 22. We heard your input! The site has a fresh, modern look designed to make it easier to find the information, services and resources you need. Take a look around and let us know what you think!

On Sept. 18, 2026, a new public charge rule went into effect. Our Office of Refugee and Immigrant Assistance has reviewed the rule and wants to provide more information about the changing policies.
DSHS continues to protect the confidentiality of clients’ personal information and doesn't share this information unless required by state or federal law. People with questions or concerns about the impact of using public benefits on their immigration status should contact an immigration attorney. DSHS can't offer legal advice.
We will provide more information on the public charge rule and how it might affect immigrants in Washington state as we learn more. Our website has more details: https://t.co/067OqwWKDK
Did you know you might be eligible for emergency cash assistance if you aren’t eligible for other DSHS cash assistance programs?
On Aug. 31, 2026, Gov. Bob Ferguson amended the proclamation that allocated $1 million for the Disaster Cash Assistance Program to help Washington residents impacted by the devastating wildfires.
This adds five more counties -- Benton, Columbia, Grant, Kittitas and Whitman -- and extends the time to apply to Oct. 30, 2026, or when funds are depleted, whichever comes first. Learn more: https://t.co/xzb3ZcmJ72

Did you lose food bought with food benefits because of recent wildfires or power outages?
DSHS requested a waiver from USDA’s Food and Nutrition Administration to extend the time people in impacted areas can request replacement food benefits. This means more time for people whose lives are disrupted by wildfires to file claims and be approved for replacement benefits so they can feed their families. We are happy to say our waiver request was approved Aug. 6, 2026.
If you live in Benton, Chelan, Ferry, Lincoln, Okanogan, Whitman and Yakima counties, including Tribal communities within these counties, and lost food due to wildfires or power outages that began on July 15, 2026, you have until Friday, Aug.14, 2026, to file a claim.
If you live in Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens and Walla Walla counties, including Tribal communities within these counties, and lost food due to wildfires or power outages that began on Aug. 1, 2026, you have until Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, to file a claim.
People in all other counties must file a claim within 10 days of food loss. We will continue to request waivers from USDA as needed.
To file a claim and request a replacement, call 877-501-2233, visit a DSHS mobile office event or visit your local Community Services Office.
