We have a nation of people who feel hopeless. And maybe someday a leader will arise that will inspire them. Or maybe we need to reach the point where our poverty line reaches 90% and only then will the 90% fight back. Because, eventually people are going to get fed up.

Or we just accept that the ideals of the liberation struggle no longer apply. That we no longer care for the many but for the few corrupt ones.

Independence in Zimbabwe has been a colossal failure. Poverty has become every Zimbabwean’s experience and it is an ongoing concern. And it’s not something that seems to be improving.
It is worse now than it was at independence.

How are people surviving? You ask. By shutting up and taking every little thing they can. By understanding that corruption pays. By getting involved in illegal and improper activities. I think that the population either has to suffer more, to realise that they have to rise up.

Once upon a time, poverty and unemployment were as low as 10% of the population. Then it went up to 20%. Then 40%. I’m not sure when the last census was or what it showed. But by my calculations, poverty and unemployment may be closer to the 80% - 90% mark now.
