Happy Independence Day, and happy 250th birthday to the United States!

I hope all Washingtonians have the chance to celebrate with loved ones and neighbors today.

I also encourage everyone to reflect on the values that we want to hold in our country for many more years to come — including service, democracy, inclusion, and the rule of law. We need to lean into those values to make our country even stronger going forward.

Last July, we restored our ferry system to full domestic service — going back up to 3 boats on the Triangle Route, adding a vessel to Bremerton/Seattle, and putting into service the biggest hybrid-electric ferry in the country.

We cut cancellations, improved on-time performance, and saw 500,000 more passengers that summer.

Now, we're expecting 400,000 passengers between today and Monday — prepare for a busy holiday weekend and thank our hardworking ferry crews! I hope many first-time passengers get to experience our wonderful ferries.

The Interstate Bridge Replacement Program achieved a major milestone today, completing its federal environmental review.

A new Interstate bridge is essential to Washington and Oregon. It’s critical for our economy, public safety, and the thousands of good-paying jobs it will provide.

This approval is a major milestone that allows us to get moving. We are committed to building this bridge. I’m excited to get started.

We're celebrating the beginning of a first-in-the-nation program.

Starting tomorrow, WA Cares will begin paying its first benefits to Washingtonians who need support for their long-term care needs — helping to cover the costs of an in-home caregiver, equipment, home modifications, meal delivery, and more. 

I want to thank everyone who has been deeply involved over many years to make this happen.

Washington has been successfully and securely voting by mail for decades. The option to postmark our ballots on Election Day is an important way we make elections accessible to all voters, and it's particularly impactful for rural and military voters. Today's decision by the U.S. Supreme Court keeps that effective system intact.
