Washington state's Semiquincentennial Committee has put together a map of activities for America's 250th birthday. Check for an event near you: https://t.co/b7r90d42eg
Happy Independence Day, and happy 250th birthday to the United States!
I hope all Washingtonians have the chance to celebrate with loved ones and neighbors today.
I also encourage everyone to reflect on the values that we want to hold in our country for many more years to come — including service, democracy, inclusion, and the rule of law. We need to lean into those values to make our country even stronger going forward.
Last July, we restored our ferry system to full domestic service — going back up to 3 boats on the Triangle Route, adding a vessel to Bremerton/Seattle, and putting into service the biggest hybrid-electric ferry in the country.
We cut cancellations, improved on-time performance, and saw 500,000 more passengers that summer.
Now, we're expecting 400,000 passengers between today and Monday — prepare for a busy holiday weekend and thank our hardworking ferry crews! I hope many first-time passengers get to experience our wonderful ferries.
I will be making an appointment to this vacancy soon. If you’re interested in serving on the Washington Human Rights Commission, or any of our other boards and commissions, here’s how to apply: https://t.co/azZvyvaa2C

In another well-deserved and unsurprising Washington win, the Seattle dog was just named America's best hot dog in the New York Times Wirecutter bracket with the help of @chefjoseandres.
Connie and Steve Ballmer have called Washington State home for many years, so it’s exciting to see them reinforce their commitment to our community through the launch of MoveUp Washington.
Ballmer Group will continue its longstanding support for Washington families through initiatives like our partnership on Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP).
Together, these complementary investments will help ensure that children and families across Washington continue to have the opportunities and support they need to thrive.
I said in March that we're going to build this damn bridge.
Today we took a major step forward with the completion of federal environmental review. Delay is not our friend — let's get moving.
The Interstate Bridge Replacement Program achieved a major milestone today, completing its federal environmental review.
A new Interstate bridge is essential to Washington and Oregon. It’s critical for our economy, public safety, and the thousands of good-paying jobs it will provide.
This approval is a major milestone that allows us to get moving. We are committed to building this bridge. I’m excited to get started.
From one Belgian visitor: “You have lakes, you have mountains; nothing is far away. You have a really cool city. And yes, I think it’s in terms of location a paradise.”
Welcome to Washington state!

The Seattle Animal Shelter animals have been 3-for-1 with their World Cup picks so far.
Looking forward to seeing if Molly continues their solid run with her prediction of Senegal over Belgium.
Less than 3% of Americans have private long-term care insurance or enough savings to pay out of pocket. With an aging population and dramatic federal cuts to Medicaid, the challenge is significant.
I'm proud Washington state is leading the way on this issue with WA Cares.
We're celebrating the beginning of a first-in-the-nation program.
Starting tomorrow, WA Cares will begin paying its first benefits to Washingtonians who need support for their long-term care needs — helping to cover the costs of an in-home caregiver, equipment, home modifications, meal delivery, and more.
I want to thank everyone who has been deeply involved over many years to make this happen.
And thank you to Sonja, a home care aide, and her aunt Evelyn for hosting us today to talk about this great news.
You have to be a world class city to host a World Cup match.
You've seen what people from around the world have said, here on X and elsewhere: Our city, and our state, are the most world class of all.
The group stage has ended and the reviews are in.
I joined other elected officials and our local organizing committee today to announce the news: Seattle and Washington state have been the absolute best destination for the World Cup.
You don't have to take my word for it — we're number 1 (tied with Atlanta) in The Athletic's survey of sports writers.
It's been a real pleasure to work with all of our amazing partners. Looking forward to 2 more matches in Seattle.
Washington has been successfully and securely voting by mail for decades. The option to postmark our ballots on Election Day is an important way we make elections accessible to all voters, and it's particularly impactful for rural and military voters. Today's decision by the U.S. Supreme Court keeps that effective system intact.
