What people think Gerald is:
- A planet killer
- A methane machine
- The reason the ice caps are melting
- An argument for veganism
- 600 kilograms of environmental catastrophe
What Gerald actually is:
- A four-year-old Hereford cross in a field near Ledbury
- Eating grass that grows because it rained
- Exhaling carbon that was in that grass last month
- Producing manure that will grow the next round of grass
- Aerating soil with his hooves that no machine can replicate at this scale
- Sequestering carbon through the root systems his grazing pressure stimulates
- Running a land management system that has been carbon neutral since before agriculture existed
Gerald has seven wildflower species in his south corner.
Gerald is not aware of this.
Gerald is grazing the south corner.
The scientists tracking his methane have not been invited to present their findings.
Gerald has not been asked for comment.
Gerald is busy.

Really interesting morning looking at soil infiltration before and after using #aerwox heavy aerator.
I was sceptical but with a bit of pipe, water, and a stopwatch, amazed.

A summary of five years of cover crops and heavy tillage @ProjectLamport. 80% of the benefit comes from photosynthesis and plants 20% from tillage, very shallow! #rootnotiron
